Would the scout be a good class to follow in the kirath stuff? Would you substitute the ranger for the scout in the alternate features?

I would say that the kirath would arise from the four following classes: Ranger, Scout, Rogue, Fighter. The Ranger is more along the lines of a person who grew up or lived in the forest (or other terrain) where as the scout is someone who has been trained by a military organization to move about the terrain and to surveil opponents. Not that the ranger does not possess training, it is just that the training is more from a love of the forest (or environment) where as the scout's training comes more from a sense of defending his fellows by using his terrain skills. The fighter again is a trained character, in the art of war. The rogue is somebody who has developed the skills of the ranger and scout more through their own desire for survival but adapt very well in relation to doing the scout or ranger's job.

Personally, I would say that most Kirath come from the scout class. One reason for this is that it avoids the tricky question of spellcasting from the ranger. Two, Kirath have also been spoken of as military trained characters who shadow and watch intruders and if need be take them out. Three, the kirath have also been flouted and harassers who allow the main force of a military unit time to get a plan put together, sort of like a picket line. Four, they also excel at hit-and-run tactics which is incorporated into the scout class with the skirmish ability.

I agree with you on this point Darth.

I am playing a party right now of characters in the Age of Mortals campaign and am finding it hard to be a druid because I am running the whole party. I want to changer her out for a more combat oriented person and love the kirath now that they are really available. Without the druid though I am loosing a bit of the healing ability but I do have a 5th level Cleric/3rd level Healing Hand of Quenesti Pah who is a booku healer.

I am wondering if it might not be more appropriate to make this kirath a scout/cleric to supplement the healing, but I also have a Knight of the Sword/Clerist (7th level equiv) Cleric of Kiri Jolith. If I do decide to go that route, what god would be in the flavor of the kirath to worship?

Habbakuk is the quintessential kirath deity. If the scout was a class in the core rulebooks, yes, we'd have made them all scouts. Unfortunately we don't get to pull in those other classes, which is why we occasionally mine them for class abilities instead. Skirmishing shows up in Races of Ansalon as a Sikk'et Hul goblin alternative class feature, for instance.

Gratias agimus tibi Cam.

Is there a need then to give the scout alternate class abilities as a kirath?

Point of clarification, anyone can join the kirath (elves of half-elves), if they have the skills and the feats?

Yes as far as I know, anyone who has the skills and meets the racial requirements can be a kirath.

By the rules yes you are correct. However you must always consider the role-play aspect of the game. I am sure that not just any elf who meets the requirements can start calling himself a kirath warrior. I am sure he must still go through some sort of intiation of official membership before he is recognized as a kirath.

True, but that is a roleplaying thing. I dont think that the Silvanesti would allow many if any non-Silvanesti into their group.

Cam, quick question and if it is not a fair one please let me know. If you were going to give alternate abilities to kirath scouts (Complete Adventurer) for the kirath class, what would they be? Of course this is if they would get these alternate class abilities.

Merci!

Sure. I'd give them access to the ranger alternative class features, but they'd lose their bonus feats at 4th, 8th, and 12th level. I'd shift the ability the kirath ranger gets at 11th level (true seeing) to 12th in place of that 12th level bonus feat.

Scouts already get Sense Motive as a class skill, but these abilities more than make up for that doubled up bonus.

Cheers,
Cam
