Ok,

Sorry to ask this, but it's late and I am preping for my game. In one of the DL books there is a grey side bar about the Assassin PrC and their inability to cast spells during the War of the Lance. It also has what abilities they gain since they lose their spells. I have about 20+ books spread about my game room and now I can't remember where the paragraph was.

1) Does anyone know which book the paragraph is in?

2) If an Assassin from another plane (say Greyhawk) enters Krynn, do they lose their spellcasting ability?

Thanks.

War of the Lance. It's right next to Salah-Khan's stat block, since he's a non-spellcasting assassin. I would suggest adding Opportunist (rogue special ability) at 1st and Crippling Strike at 5th, however - looking back, I should have done that the first time.

2) If an Assassin from another plane (say Greyhawk) enters Krynn, do they lose their spellcasting ability?

Yup.

Cheers,
Cam

An offshoot of one of his questions. If a 10th level wizard from say FR comes to Krynn, does lose his ability to cast spells or retain it but just worry of being labled a renegade if discovered and possibly being forced to take the test. And one more, if a sorceror comes into an era other than AoM would he also lose all spellcasting ability.

I think that he would be branded a renegade.

I'd guess the latter. It's like a trade - the techniques are the same, but if you don't have the local union card you can get in trouble.

Yes, although there may be rules against time travel across the Chaos War boundary (I can't remember the time travel rules off the top of my head).

Of course, no answer about cross-setting travel is "official" because officially Dragonlance 3.5 doesn't support that sort of thing, so how these things work is never officially addressed.

The only thing I remember on teh subject coems from the DL Adventures and it said that mages became renegades and clerics lost their ability to cast spells until they became a worshipper of one of Krynn's gods.

But I may argue this point if I may, Chaos brought about the "rediscovery" ambient magic. So on that point if an accomplished sorceror from another world came to Krynn, why exactly would he lose or perhaps one could say "forget" how to cast his spells. Especially if he came from a world were no deity is required for the casting of arcane spell, such as greyhawk or eberron. Now I know 3ed doesn't really acknowledge or support alternating between different primes, as evident with the lack of support for planescape and spelljammer, but personally I've always been a fan of some world-hopping.

Other world sorcereres get the ability to use magic from their blood, not the ambient way that Ansalonian sorcerers do.
