I'd always been having this idea about making a trailer for one of my campaigns, finally i took the step forward and started to prepare it.

Today after some hours of work(which mainly consisted about finding the right movies to video edit) i finally finished it

As you can think contrary to other fantasy worlds there isn't a lot of material for Dark sun.. so i really have to dig in the depths of a lot of movies..
and here's the result. I know this is not a flawless work.. but i'm really glad with the results considering that i'm not a professional video editor (i just learned how to use the software a week ago)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=69HYXPReLxs

By the way the text is in spanish because that's my native language.. if you want the details about what's on the text i can write it down later.

Thanks for your comments

Looks great. I like it and thereby award you one (1) Poké-point.

Can you give a translation of the text in the video?

Thanks for the replies so far:

Concerning the texts:

Un lugar en donde sobrevivir: ... a place where surviving..

lo es todo: It's EVERYTHING

..y todos aquellos oprimidos saben muy bien..: and all those opressed know very well....

..que para ser dueños de si mismos: ....that in order to be master of themselves

Cualquier cosa vale: ... Everything counts (i'm not really happy about this particular translation because i can't find the exact word).. but it's like those fights where there are no rules. That's the primary idea. "There are no rules" could be another translation

Piedad: Mercy..

no está en el vocabulario: it's not in the vocabulary...

El Rey Sombra - Nibenay: The Shadow King - Nibenay

Profanadores: Defilers

y Druidas: ..and druids

se encuentran: clash

Los espiritus declaran su propia guerra: The spirits declare their own war.

FIn...?: The End...??

the movies are: the gladiator, the mummy (mummy 2??), the scorpion king, eragon, maybe star wars.... correct??

As for the question regarding the movies.

You missed some: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (for one magic scene),Apocalypto (the Draj scenes),and 300. Regarding the others you were right. In the Mummy movies you mentioned i only used The Scorpion King . And Star Wars one of the last scenes where you can see something flyiing over a Canyon

I Used Sony Vegas 7.0 for the video-editing (a real user friendly program).

Thanks for your comments and if you want to use it feel free to do so . You can even submit here or in personal message if you want for example to change the texts and put something in english for your own campaigns

That's not a problem at all for me, and i can even send you the original with the texts changed for you tu use.(it's 96 mb the mpeg) The Avi after the rendering was 929 MB (almost 1GB)

While I liked it, there was a tad bit to much in the way of Gladiator clips included. Overall, you did an good job with it

Nice one.

I do gotta say that you missed some obvious choices though.
Dune anyone? You've got the original movie or either of the 2 mini series to choose from.
Troy? Rikus even appears in it, toward the beginning
Kingdom of Heaven? You took the song from it but none of the cool battle scenes? (and to note - IMO the Passion of the Christ soundtrack offers a better track...err, track 14 IIRC - titled Jesus Is Carried Down)
You could even pick up a rather close rendition of an inix in the last Star Wars (Ep. III), rather close to the scene you already have in there.
Rome - an awesome TV series btw
You could pick up an air cleric from Chronicles of Riddick, as well as some wicked terrain.
Starship Troopers - thri-kreen horde anyone?
And let's not forget Gladiator....Ok, so yeah you have it in there, but where's the actual gladiator combat? Some wicked scenes in there totally appropriate (supplemented by the ones from Rome, of course)
Oh, and if you can get a copy of the opening scene in Onimusha 3, some awesome stuff in there as well.

Also, to make it more in the theme of Dark Sun, I think I'd tend towards editing out a couple of the movie stars, ie. the Rock, 300's Gerard Butler. I think I'd also try sincing the music better to what's happening on-screen, ie. have battle/action-oriented scenes timed to the more dramatic parts of the music, and the slower music timed to the character driven scenes and scenery shots.

Now before any of you start rippin' me apart, I wanna say that I like the attempt. I like where you're coming from Soulandbone, and I perfectly understand that you're not a professional by any means. To be quite frank, I would never have the time or energy to put something like this together, and for that I give you props. Just my 2 ceramics.

Well thanks for the constructive criticism . To be honest i wanted to develop it even more, but the thing was that it's been 4 months since we last played Dark Sun, and i wanted to surprise my players before this week-end (they haven't even watched it yet). I'm going to show them the trailer next Sunday.

Regarding Gladiator the problem was that in my opinion there was a lot of metal in the battles. and even horses if i remember correctly. The only horses that appear in my clip are really far away and you cannot immediately tell that they're indeed there.

Another reason was that after some hours of editing i was really tired and all i wanted was just to finish the trailer :P

But i have the original file and i will keep it. Maybe some time in the future i will add your suggestions Thanks anyway.

Man I loved it! Could I possibly get a copy of it with the texts in english too?

Yes !! No problem at all in fact it would be a pleasure. Just send me a personal message indicating me which texts do you want in each box. Specifyiing to me in which box you want that text

For example:

In place of "Athas" Please put This " ... "

In place of "*word in spanish*" please put this:" ....."

In five minutes i have it finished and i can share it later via megaupload

And as for the others replies.. i'm glad you all liked it

Both Mummy movies, the Scorpion King, Hidalgo, and Conan the Barbarian would have been good movies to pull from as well.

I have to agree a quick shot of the guy that brad pitt kills at the begining of Troy would be a great addition. I also think that a shot of the big black dude in conan the destroyer might be a nice addition as well.

Damn ME

I'm a perfectionist :P

SO i'm taking your respective advices and i will see what can i do about that.

I let you know before a week passes on , and i will show you a new changed trailer if by then i decided to actually made those changes. The current version will remain uploaded.

I figured that after all the work i did , making some minor changes wouldn't be too hard.. So let's see what can i come up with

Thanks

I hope you like the improved version, after watching your opinions i couldn't wait more.

I added several new scenes, to accelerate the pace of the whole movie.

I missed adding a scene from starship troopers for the thri-kreens but i didn't find it.

Yeah, it's very good! Never noticed how many desert-looking movies exist out there....but you forgot the goa'uld god impersonators from Stargate SG-1! The scene when Ba'al tortures O'Neill, pinned against a grill on a wall, Ba'al letting reversed gravity slam knifes into his body, or acid....Even a few scenes from Stargate Atlantis, like when McKay has his back turned to the camera and he's facing a living cloud of darkness.

A few scenes from Red Sonja, of the magically-induced storm-covered sky, and of the green ball artifact would be nice.
A few scenes of the inside of Bavmorda's castle throne room, and of her using magic to become immortal at the end of the movie, from Willow.

A few scenes from Pitch Black, with the giant moons, and the giant skeletons buried in the sand.

True, but when you can use a better scene, that perhaps you wouldn't of thought of, to replace a scene with setting contradictions (ie. horses or lots of metal), than I think this would be an option. Don't you?:P

yes that's true...

you can't imagine how hard it was for me to find scenes without horses.. it was impossible after all. Horse has always been the mean of transport in our civilization. with the exception of camels in some ancient cultures, but even there as long as i know there were horses..

and regarding metal i convinced myself that it was maybe just an army of a sorcerer king.. or just the color of stone or something like that :P

I think it was great. If it could have less metal that would begreat, but it is also understandable how hard that is. Have you tried to do the part where the trees spring up in reverse, that seems like it would make for a defiler scene.
