Suggestions on possible 'blessings' from the dark powers?

Hello all!

I usually don't post on these boards too often but a real dilly of a pickle came across my desk the other day. In a Ravenloft game I'm currently running, one of my players is a chemist. He's recently become very paranoid in character after bringing down someone who had abilities granted to them by the Dark Powers. He is of course unaware that the Dark Powers exists but the death of this NPC has gotten the character all rattled up and scared of the repercussions that might come to follow.

He's recently has been trying out new materials when he brews potions. Tokens from monsters he has fought against and such but now he has moved onto using a part of the body from the NPC he had killed in the potion. Using a person's body in the brewing of potions? I feel that this might be warranted of some attention from the Dark Powers. He's mostly doing it to see what sort of results it would produce when the potion was used.

I've been thinking of some boosts/banes he could receive from the Dark Powers for this act? It does seem warranted for it but I can't quite think up of a really good one that'd fit the character. Any suggestions on what sort of 'blessing' he could receive from the Dark Powers for his actions? I'm stumped myself.

Thanks in advanced for all comments!

There is a really good list of things that dark gods give people for doing strange rituals in the Book of Vile Darkness. While not Ravenloft, it should give you some pointers.

There is also some alchemist stuff in Van Richten's Arsenal, including some rather nasty mishaps that could happen. You could also simply try increasing the potency of his concoctions (a bull's strength gives +6 instead of +4 to strength) while at the same time making up a reasonable bane, but not too obvious at first (perhaps that same potion makes the character go into a killing rage when it sees red, or the drinker actually grows horns or snorts like a bull).

You should take a look at the Alchemical Philosopher prestige class in VRA.

How I'd handle this is to make his alchemical concoctions somewhat more powerful at first, but only if he uses body parts from sentient beings. As the curse progresses, the potions made with body parts become even more powerful, possibly even granting permanent stat boosts or abilities (as a one-time thing), but without them the alchemist sickens or even dies. Eventually, he becomes little more than a chemically enhanced beast, skulking the shadows looking for prey to fuel his bizarre experiments.
