I just got my copy yesterday and read it cover to cover. I must say I was impressed with the book, a few minor things were wrong (how it ended...what with the Castle leaving Greyhawk it was just a little off).

I was just wondering what everyone thought of this product, and how it compares to the rest of the Expeditions.

I am excited about this book. I have looked through it. I am accustomed to a "module" format. This format seems broken because it is not a single page of a dungeon but several location in it.

The other issue is that there are several levels that are RPGA levels (or so I believe). I did not get to play these as Living Greyhawk because the levels are much lower than my current character. I decided to run them later as a GM, however I noticed that it is broken into 3 or more parts. One or two levels are to be played at GenCon Indy 2007. The next set at GenCon UK 2007, and the last at GenCon SoCal 2007, which is now cancelled! So I assume the final part will be released before the year is out. These combined levels will somehow take the party from first level to the start of level 8.

If anyone knows if I got all of this right, let me know. I want the whole set. I have to run and report Fields of Ruin before I can start getting more Greyhawk Ruins.

The other issue is that there are side missions that are "Web Enhancements". I already found and downloaded all of that. I would also assume more may be in the upcoming online versions of Dragon and Dungeon e-magazines. So we will all have to keep our eyes peeled!

Good Luck,

I'll stick with Grayhawk Ruins and the city boxed set, thanks. It kinda sucks that the 2nd Edition version of the complete dungeon fit in half the space of this book. Damn giant stat blocks.

I picked up the Ruins at Gencon, and on the final day of the con while sitting aground the Hyatt bumped into Mr Gygax. A very amiable person, and quite friendly. even asked him if he would mind signing my Castle Greyhawk book even though he didn;t write it because it was based on his original and for me anything greyhawk is good. He said yes, of course, and signed my book! :D

Gary has always been great about things like that, even though he doesn't have to be (and clearly has reason not to be). A stand-up guy.

Got the book a couple of days ago, and furiously reading through it.

First impressions are that it has delivered what was promised by the authors on these boards a few months ago. I am picking up some good references to the original campaign, which removes my main fear that it would be a bland setting-neutral book just trading on the name. Glad that the editing allowed Erik, James and Jason to work the material as they wanted (the ending excepted!).

Production quality also seems high, and overall this has to be, so far, my favourite published Greyhawk since the 80's!

Spoilers to follow.

I haven’t really followed Greyhawk too closely for some years, but I did buy this. My initial reaction was negative, but I continued pursuing it, and it did grow on me. Overall, I guess I liked most of it. Particularly, I was happy to see some meaningful urban adventuring opportunities. There were several treks to the ruins made with the time spent in between more than resting and selling loot. I wasn’t a fan of the Rary the Traitor material, so I liked the Robilar related stuff. I thought the whole Circle of Five concept was lame, so I was glad to read that group is no more. Another plot from the original Greyhawk Ruins I didn’t like was the Nerull vs. Vaprak conflict, and I was glad to see that that is now considered a thing of the past. I am torn about the number of Greyhawk personas included in the adventure. It’s cool to see a fitting reference to such luminaries, but name-dropping seems to be over done in a lot of the Greyhawk material I have read.

I loved it. Was great to see Greyhawk being supported again. I have both the city box set and Greyhawk ruins. This should be a nice support to it. I just wish I had more time as I have only just started my group on the Savage Tide campaign!
Oh, and this is my first post on WoC forums.

I'm excited about getting this! What levels is it for? Does anyone have any info on the RPGA campaign featuring this module?

I'd like to turn this book into a whole campaign, anyone else tried this?

I noticed something intresting in ETTROG. They mention an oriental land far to the west. Shou leng or something like that. Does anyone know anything more about the oriental lands of Greyhawk? This was the first I ever heard mention about it and I am interested in knowing more.

It was referenced in Gygax's old writings. Some place Kara-Tur out there. There is no real official answer to what and where it is. The Dragon Annual map suggests that there are several Oriental lands out there.

Zagig didn't leave the entrance to the Hall of Memory
without a guardian. The dragon carved into the ceiling is
in fact an exotic dragon from the Far Western Shaofeng
Kingdom. On a rare trip beyond the Baklunish West, Zagig
and his companions spotted this creature, a young adult
t'ien lung named Han-Tan Chun. With his serpentine
shape, his dull gold scales, and his multicolored mane and
whiskers, he seemed more like a treasure than an enemy,
so the company captured him and brought him back to
Castle Greyhawk. There Zagig enslaved the dragon and
bound him into this mosaic to provide amusement for
his friends and a surprising challenge to any who might
attempt to break into the treasury.
