I havnt noticed many preserver only feats but there are defiler only. Has anyone made a bunch? I also dont recall much about the defiler taint in the DS3.5 core book.

the defiler feats are (according to the last time i read that section of the athas.org books) intended to provide a reason for defilers to defile.

in 2nd edition, they just made defilers need less xp, and therefore more powerful (for their given amount of xp). in 3rd edition, they represented the fact that defilers are more powerful by providing them with feats that are on the upper end of the power scale.

thus, the "preserver" feats are in fact simply the feats that don't require you to defile. the advantage to being a preserver is that you don't leave a circle of ash everytime you cast a spell, and are therefore not necessarily as visible as a defiler. this is useful because it's really easy to tell when a defiler is in town, whereas if a preserver is cautious about when they cast spells and/or they disguise them well, they're much less likely to be brutally murdered by an enraged mob. generally speaking, that's a good thing.
