Hi Everyone. I have read that the movie trailer premiered at Gen Con Indy last month. But does anyone know if it has been made available to the public and if so, where we can view this online? There's no information available at the official movie site or imdb unfortunately. Apologies if this has been already discussed in a different thread, but I didn’t see any.

Cheers.

Nope it has not be made available. The trailer at Gen Con was a rough cut version and the final one has not be approved or final distibution yet.

Since the the movie is direct to DVD, it's been my experence that we won't see the trailer for public viewing until a month from it's release which is sometime in November.

Actually I'm glad about that. Making the other two movies is dependent on how good of a profit it makes and if it were to go to the theater, that's another 20 million for marketing and distribution. Therfore making it harder to make a profit.

Well, maybe that will be okay. I'd like to see live-action DragonLance someday. From Chronicles all the way down to War od Souls. Maybe get the Raistlin Chronicles, Lost Chronicles, and The Dark Disciple too...

Thanks for the info, I'll keep checking. Regarding the direct to dvd, I take your point about the cost and distribution, but I thought the film will have a limited theatrical release in some US cities? It would be a shame if they dont make some sort of effort to show it on the big screen.

Not necessarily. DVD sales are far more lucrative than box office tickets and have become a prime option for many movies that would otherwise end up being entirely missed in the theaters. The ability to reach a much wider audience coupled with the appeal of special features, online content, and more has made direct-to-DVD a lot less stigmatic than straight-to-video used to be.

Cheers,
Cam

Like Cam said, that's no longer the trend. A lot of animated, good quality, movies have gone direct to DVD. If you look at the Ultimate Avengers, Ironman, and Dr. Strange. They are pretty good entertainment. I put the DoAT on the same level as those. Which IMO is a good thing.

I have not seen any of those movies so I cannot make a comment about it. I am glad that the times are a changing for the DVD industry!

I have. I own all of them in fact. Dr. Strange just came out and they are pretty good movies. You must remember however that they are animated and less costly to make, seeing as how you do not have to pay the actors so much and you don't have to wory about those pesky looking things like making it look real. The real life movie to DVDs have not all been that great and there are very few of these as compared to the animated ones. As Treymordin has pointed out however most of these ones have not been necesarily of the greatest quality, this is not to say that they have been of bad quality just somewhere in between great and bad. Honestly when I think of live-action movies direct to DVD, my first thought goes to porno type movies. So I am not that excited about a direct to DVD movie for Dragonlance, but again this is not to say that it can't be good. It might be the one that surprises us all. Even Trey :D :D :D :D

Straight to DvD makes me happy because instead of paying 10 bucks to see it once i can pay X once to see it hundreds of times.

i would love for it to come out in theaters.

i too enjoy the recent animations released. i have both the avenger movies, advent children, iron man and soon to buy the hellboy animated movie.

speaking of anime i just finished watching the uncut collection of Spawn the animated series. i wish there was a 4th season.:evillaugh

Direct to DVD? Well, I guess that prevents me from camping out in the cold for three days waiting for opening night tickets. Given my northern location, that might save a toe or two.

So the trailer is up on YouTube. EnWorld has a link.

It made me want to cry.

Not because it was beautiful. Oh, oh no.

I can't believe tripe this awful made it past the planning stage. It is incomprehensible to me that people actually got paid to develop that product.

Not sure what you were watching. Personally, I thought it looked pretty good, especially considering it's still a rough cut. The dragons look awesome.

It's not live-action, but it's good animation.

I thought it was pretty good. I even got chills. Although I do think they could have done better with Raistlin's voice. Sutherland's okay, but he doesn't sound sinister enough, and I've always thought Raistlin would have a sinister note to his voice that would give you chills as you read it.

I don't know. I think it was a good choice. At this stage in his life, I always "heard" Raist's voice as more iritated than sinister. Sutherland has that raspiness that Raist's should have post-Test.

The only guy I think would have the perfect voice for Raistlin is Christopher Lambert. That's the epitome of the voice I hear in my head when Raistlin speaks. Sutherland is fine choice though.

Alan Rickman as Raist maybe?

Alan Rickman could do it, but I think I would prefer Gary Oldman. Alan Rickman has become to aquainted with Severus Snape. While I like Snape I don't think I want him confused with Raistlin.

I know, I know Gary Oldman was Serius Black, but he was also Dracula, Zorg, Dr. Smith, etc... Hence scary. He can pull off the easily irritated just look at him in Air Force One :D :D

After viewing the trailer I was reminded of the styles prevalent in 80's Saturday morning cartoons - Transformers, He-Man and of course the Dungeons & Dragons cartoon.

I wouldn't buy a movie ticket to see it, but owning on DVD would definately be an option.

So the DVD isn't being released until mid-January now? Not in time for the holidays?

Disappointing. Very disappointing.

But hopefully a later release date will result in a better product.

Hopefully.

(And Jan. 15 is still in time for my birthday, so its still good for me. Hehe.)
