After reading a bit too much Harry Potter (all seven books in two months cannot be healthy), a friend of mine had the idea of running a wizard-only campaign taking place in a wizard-only setting. He was originally looking for an arcane college in the Forgotten Realms, but couldn't find one that fitted the idea he had in mind. That's when I suggested usin DragonLance and the Towers of High Sorcery. We already know that many young wizards go to boarding schools where they learn the basics of spellcasting (at least we know Raistlin and a bunch of others did). At first he didn't like the fact that those low-level wizards would be feared by everyone the second they set foot outside of their schools, but he quickly began to see it as a good thing, making the campaign even more interesting. And his players? Well, so far they love idea.

I'll see him tonight and ask how his campaign idea has advanced in the last week. In the meantime, if you have any ideas or suggestions regarding a Hogwarts-like campaign set on Krynn, don't hesitate to post. I'll make sure to check the thread later.

a dicussion on krynn flavored witches can be found on the nexus for more ideas. my wife is a big harry potter fan and wouldnt mind playing a witch like that found in the series.

Interesting thread, but it seems more focussed on the traditionnal "pagan secret witch coven." I was more looking for a formal setting, probably tied to the Towers of High Sorcery, where low-level wizards would go to train and learn magic away from the rest of society until the point where they're ready to take the test.

I don't think I need to do anything with the rules. It's just a matter of creating an organization that fits in the DragonLance campaign setting and is still workable for a full campaign wih nothing but wizard characters. It'd probably be better with no sorcerers in the setting, so I guess the Age of Despair is the place to set it on the timeline. I'm just not sure whether it'd be best before or after the War of the Lance.

I play in the age of mortals myself and include trips into the past to play in other era's, the other thread talks about witches using focused magic and having traditions dealing with the moons of magic, but not as rigid as the Orders of highsorcery. i can see many differant types of Covens, those who use focused godly magic, those who use ambient chaos magic, and those who are more connected to nature.

i feel anything can fit into Dragonlance, people just have to accept it more often than they do. as it is krynn is a world of obsessive compulsive gods who have to have everything just right to fit exactly perfect. and i dont think thats the case. some things should stand out as unique and original. and personally that is what i look for in anything dealing with fandom. we already have the orders of High sorcery, so how can your witch coven share the magic and stay original? I'm sure theres alot of ways. just gotta find the one YOU like the most. after all you will be the one using it the most.

I also like to get feedback on ideas, most of those ideas are being submitted though. my personal homebrew stuff thats 100% fantastical fandom wouldn't be to accepted by the average or hardcore DL fan because it includes things Not of krynn. What I'm tryin to say is, don't hold back just because someone online might not accept it. let loose and post your ideas so i can enjoy them too!

Remember the Nexus is a great place to submit Fandom ideas for Dragonlance. helps keep things fresh!

While the idea of a coven of witches who study magic with the permission and even supervision of the orders of magic, I have always felt the the idea of a witch was more along the lines of small covens or cells of magic users trying to avoid detection by the government, or even others. So the idea you mention brings to mind more along the idea of a couple of witches, beguilers, sorcerers, and warlocks constantly moving throughout the world trying to stay out of the way and avoid detection by the orders.
