We use all the additional handbooks of 2E (Ranger's/Wizards Handbook). Thanks in advance... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : DarthRicker Date : 10-13-03 11:22 AM Normally, no, only single class fighter can specialize. There may be something that changes this in one of the handbooks. I think there was a Ranger kit that allowed the Ranger to specialize. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : sandskimmer Date : 10-13-03 12:25 PM The book "Player's Option: Skills and Powers" allowed any class to become specialized in a weapon at high enough levels, but you had to pay character points to do it. A Paladin/Ranger could pay 4 character points at 3rd level to become specialized in a weapon. The book "Player's Option: Combat & Tactics" allowed anyone from the Warrior group to gain Expertise instead of specilization. Expertise granted the additional attacks, but did not give the bonuses to hit or damage. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : ekote Date : 10-13-03 12:26 PM Thanks Sand, but we're not using Player's Options. Just the original 2E with the corresponding plethora of handbooks. I can't remember if the Ranger's/Palladin's Handbooks allowed those classes to specialize. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : sandskimmer Date : 10-13-03 06:52 PM For Paladins: The Errant receives specialization in the lance only. For Rangers: The Jusifier receives specializaion in 1 of the following: Bow (any), crossbow (any), dagger, sling, spear, sword (any). That's all I could find, but since you obviously have the books (I assume), you could probably do a more extensive search yourself. There are several kits that provide bonuses to hit with certain weapons as well. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Mystryl Date : 10-15-03 12:00 PM If you look in Demihuman Deities, specialty priests of Solonor Thelandira (who are rangers) can specialize in any bow. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : ekote Date : 10-15-03 02:18 PM Yup, the true answer is that Rangers/Palladins CANNOT specialize and that only pure Fighters can. Exceptions to the rule can be found in rare instances where certain Gods/Handbook kits/etc. allow. Thanks all for the input. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Malaug Date : 10-16-03 07:09 AM Yep and then only they can then go on to Weapon Expertise and Weapon Mastery. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Regularguy Date : 10-18-03 12:14 AM Originally posted by sandskimmer For Paladins: The Errant receives specialization in the lance only. Remember, a Paladin or Ranger can take one of the kits in the Fighter Handbook instead; the Gladiator and Myrmidon each bestow a free specialization, and the Samurai opens up some odd possibilities of its own. And, for the sake of completeness, a dual- or multi-classed Specialty Priest of the God of War can (and, as a requirement of his faith, must) take Weapon Specialization. ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : ekote Date : 10-18-03 10:36 AM I thought only Fighters could take kits from the Fighter's Handbook? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Regularguy Date : 10-18-03 10:47 AM Originally posted by ekote I thought only Fighters could take kits from the Fighter's Handbook? Nope. To quote the Fighter's Handbook, "In general, each Kit can be used with each of the three warrior classes. Your character can, for instance, be a Barbarian Fighter, an Amazon Paladin, or a Samurai Ranger ... When one warrior class cannot choose a specific Warrior Kit, the exceptions will be noted." In fact, they go on to push assorted combinations: "Therefore, a Paladin who wants to look every inch the shining knight should take the Cavalier Warrior Kit," as well as all those with recommended proficiencies that cost "double slots unless Paladin or Ranger." And don't get me started on how "a Paladin might even be required to be a Berserker." ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
