Original Dragonlance Spec Art by Elmore

As the holidays approach, I always try to visit my closet and clean things out. I am often amazed by what I find in there.

And what I found this time has lead to my auctioning a true piece of Dragonlance History...

In 1983, I was working as a game designer for TSR, Inc. and trying to promote a new fantasy project that I called Dragonlance. In an effort to convince the company to back this untested concept, I along with Games Manager Harold Johnson, approached Larry Elmore to produce – on his own time – several pieces of art to help sell the idea. Elmore enthusiastically obliged, producing four large original oil paintings on art board.

We didn't know it at the time, but Dragonlance would go on to become one of the best-selling fantasy series of all time. The original paintings that sold the series were each given to different project participants and have been closely held in private collections...until now.

I am offering through Ebay the opportunity to bid and win the first of these original paintings. You may have seen it before in books like ‘The Art of Dragonlance.’ It is an unframed original painting on heavy weight illustration board 20 inches wide by 30 inches tall. It depicts the early concept versions of the characters Riverwind, Tasslehoff and Goldmoon looming over images of Solace, Pax Tharkas, the refugees and dragons. The burning of Solace is depicted on the right while Forestmaster is illustrated on the left. All are cast in Autumn hues. The painting is signed by Larry Elmore under his hand lettering ‘Color Rough “Dragonlance”.

In addition, I’m also going to be offering four pen and pencil illustrations by Larry Elmore as a separate set. Elmore’s magnificent original ink renderings of fantasy spaceships under sail deserve to be seen. Two of the drawings are signed by the artist.

A letter of provenance, signed and attested by me regarding the history of each art piece, will be provided with the art. You can see the auction and the artwork either through this link, by searching Ebay for ‘TRH’ or by visiting the links on the DragonHearth Productions website.

This is Dragonlance History that deserves to be enjoyed.
