For AD&D, do you personally prefer the standard spell progression/spells per day/magic system for the spellcasters in your game, or do you do something different? Myself, I prefer the Spell Point and Channeling rules given in Player's Option: Spells & Magic. So what do you use for magic in your AD&D game? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : sandskimmer Date : 10-15-03 03:59 PM I thought the spell point system was more realistic and had more flavor, but no one in my group used it because it was just too different and potentially had massive book-keeping requirements. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Mighty Tassadar Date : 10-16-03 06:31 PM We've been using the spellpoint/Channeling system for years and it is an integral part of my campaign. At first there was some opposition against it but the advantages soon became clear. I did redesign the channeling rules for specialists because I didn't like them under channeling rules, and I also adapted the rules for accumulating fatigue because it didn't make much sense. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Elise Date : 10-24-03 12:47 PM I use a modified spell point system because most of my players started out in console video games, and spell points are easier to explain to them. Plus I've always enjoyed the flexibility of the free spells. My clerics often memorize some cure wounds spells and a couple other things that they use regularly, and then leave some points open for emergencies. I guess the magic system used should be something that everyone at the table is comfortable with. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Ars Loqui Date : 10-26-03 12:13 PM I use a modified spell points system wherein spell points are dealt with in a similar fashion to the hit point system. I also use the daily spell progression table to determine how many different spells the mage can memorize per day. Each spell costs a certain number of points (according to its level) and the mage can cast any spell he has memorized as many times as he wants--provided he mas enough spell points. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : jasper Date : 10-28-03 04:53 PM I keep to spell chart but allow off the cuff casting like 3rd ed Sorcerers. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : imayb1 Date : 10-31-03 10:49 AM Spell points. 1st level spell=1 spell point. 2nd level=2 spell points. Easy. If this works for you fine, but many people have found that at high levels the PC can cast too many low-level spells. The spell point system I favour (which I didn't invent) starts: 1st level: 4, 2nd level: 6. More complicated but only the DM needs to know it at the start. I thought the spell point systems in PO were fine and still intend to use them for a particular PC cleric. Reasons too complicated to go into here. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
