I currently run a grand conjunction campaign with my players, and the party's wizard just failed his first power check (he always casts chill touch and now has acess to vampiric touch and ghoul touch also!!!), in a random encounter agains goblyns. (they are doing feast of goblyns)

I was wondering what penalties and bonuses i should give him. I personally thought about giving him infravision 30' but having his eyes turn red at night. Do u think the pros and cons of this failed power check are balanced, considering its the first state of failure.

Waiting for ur input!

Think more about how he failed his powers check. If he cast chill touch maybe he can inflict +1 damage per die when using that spell, but his hands are now always cold to the touch. The next failed check would result in the infravision, but his skin stretches tight over his bones (-1 on all Charisma-based rolls). The Path of the Lich, as it were.

That is definetly a good idea for a first failure reward/penalty. I appreciate ur input on that.

As i read my post again though, i notice i havent specified which spell caused the power check between the 3 touch spells. He actually failed it when casting vampiric touch through a spectral hand.

I didnt want to go into the "u need to drink blood" kinda thing thats why i thought of the eyes turning red.

But ill keep the idea for the chill touch as the opportunity to fail his power check will definitely arise again.

Thanks again for ur input

Vampiric touch might mean a +1 bonus to unarmed damage but he now has a strange craving for raw meat.
