Just had a quick spot reading and it looks really good. Very useful for newer players to the setting. You could even use the individual pages as handouts to players whose characters have general knowledge of the region. Well done and thank you.

Hi, I'm new here. Thanks for the great work!

I started playing D&D (actually, AD&D 2ed) using Mystara as the Campaign, particularly Karameikos. So... I'd like to ask why in the Newbie's Guide it was reverted to the status as Great Duchy instead of as Kingdom. It seems to me that it's part of a overarching decision about Mystara's timeline...

Since the Newbie Guide is written for 1000AC, Karameikos was a Grand Duchy. Stefan only declared himself King during the events of "Wrath of the Immortals", thereby making it a Kingdom.

The 2nd Edition boxed set "Kingdom of Karameikos" pulls a fast one with the timeline, but is actually set after said events. Having said that, certain NPC write-ups are a direct paste from the Gazetteer which causes certain conflicts in terms of ages, etc.

Exactly. We wrote the guide for 1000 AC for a number of reasons -- that's when most people set their campaigns, for one, and is also the point in the timeline that is most documented and consistent; finally, post-WotI Mystara is already well documented in the Almanacs.
OTOH, there was no intention of altering the canon timeline.

I sent it in as a possible news story, I was quite happy to see that it actually made it there.
