Ok so I am beginning a new DS campaign in 2ed revised. (that’s right 2ED). And after spending several nights on here reading tons of thread s on numerous issues and looking for sparks of creativity. BTW 1st time poster in the DS forum area. I came to some conclusions with your guys help with out you even knowing it. So the premise of the over all campaign will be to restore Athas to a livable world. To bring about a re-birth of sorts to the world. So obviously the past/history and such is going to play a big part here, As is exploration of ancient ruins. Not so much for the fact that the world is going to go back in time, but to get an idea of “what took place looked like before” and “how to fix it”. I am sure this is going to also require some digging in to a SK or two’s personal historical library’s too (good luck with that one PC’s…lol)

A few things I am contemplating:

1: when to start the party of? I am not sure if I want to start them off FY 11 (post Cerulean Storm) or have them start off whilst Kalak still reigns supreme in Tyr. I am almost hesitant to start post Cerulean Storm as I find it hard to believe a 15th lvl gladiator (Rikus), a 10lvl preserver/18th lvl sun wizard (pg 25 BtPP book) (Sadira) and Tithian a high level Tempest could stand a match against he Dragon (atleast according to the VoDaF). On pages 76-77 of the book it goes into great detail about how “confrontation with the Dragon means certain death” and explains in detail why. Most notably to me was the “idea” of it having 1000’s of years available to prepare for such attacks and even included examples of numerous clones available being available. However the post Dragon era leads to many more possibilities. So I may just flip a coin to determine character creation time line. Either way the premise of changing the world will stay the same.

2: I will be using Brains idea of what Athas looks like, and using the hosted site were his maps are held.

3: after much reading here I am going with the “multiple” pristine tower approach. These will play an intricate role in the reversal of most of the damage done to Athas.

4: I am also going to go the route of “gods” use to be present here. The Cleansing War led to their over all demise and/or separation from this world. They are looking for a way back in, but have yet been successful in their endeavors to do such. Although helping release them would surely help restore things here on Athas.

On a 2ed issue I am pleased with the change to the Con table but slightly disappointed in the STR table on page 5 of “The Age of Heroes” the Con table really bolsters the PC’s ability to live longer and heal easier, but the new STR table basically ham-string the characters of the world to a STR lvl of 21 on any other world. I was thinking of house ruling that the 18/01-18/00 STR brackets are available to ALL players. Which would allow non fighters to still have increased strength level but not cripple the whole world of a STR lvl of 21. other wise I plan to keep the rest of the world ability scores the way they are meant to be.

As far as “on hand” actual material I own for DS, I have the following:
Dark Sun Campaign Setting
Monstrous Compendium - Dark Sun Appendix
Dragon Kings
Thri-Kreen of Athas
Beyond the Prism Pentad
The Complete Gladiator's Handbook
Valley of Dust and Fire
Dark Sun Revised Campaign Setting

Looking to purchase the follow material either in form of PDF books or actual book material via RPGnow or various other sites such as ebay and Amazon:
The Will and the Way
Marauders of Nibenay
Defilers and Preservers - The Wizards of Athas
City By the Silt Sea
The Wanderer's Chronicles - Mind Lords of the Last Sea
City-State of Tyr
Slave Tribes
Elves of Athas
Dune Trader
Veiled Alliance
Psionic Artifacts of Athas
Earth, Air, Fire, and Water
The Ivory Triangle
Monstrous Compendium - Dark Sun Appendix II

I intend to use a good portion of the material presented at athas.org. as well. I will just have to reverse engineer it to fit my campaign.

I also have a ton of other material available for my players to use for character creation for DS as well. Including the player option books (ALL of them), 90+% of the “Complete_____ book” series. This should allow a wide arrangement of character creation ideas.

I am not 100% sure, but I am most likely going to start the characters off as slaves/prisoners on a small merchant houses caravan that gets maraudered on it’s way to “x” destination. Leaving a few lone survivors (the PC’s and few Npc’s that I see fit to fill any niches that need to be addressed (if at all)) to fend for them selves and also opens up the PC’s to freedom (although they will still bear the marks of slaves/prisoners). The most likely candidate for the attack will be a raiding tribe or perhaps a starving thri-keen pack. Either of which will make little difference in the end. It is nothing more than a starting plot line. That may or may not have anything to do with the rest of what happens afterwards. Basically after all is said and done the PC’s will have what little gear and survival equipment they can scavenge form the wreck and be on their way to were ever the table-land winds carry them (or leave’s them to rot).

I'm not sure what it is I am looking for by posting here, other than the fact thats it's 3:30 am on the West Caost and I am working the night shift and completely board. Hell I a may just keep this thread updated with happening of my campaign.

thanks for taking the time to read all of my rantings and rave'ings.

I hate to e-pimp but I have all the campaign material you are looking for. I bought another guys complete collection (off of this site) to finish mine and I have doubles of just about everything. PM if your interested. Personally, I would start the campaign a few years before Kalak is killed.

what would "your" reason be to start off the party a few years before Kalak is killed? i like the idea of him still being alive at the begining of the campaign personally as it still leaves a reason for slaves and for slave trade to take place there. but i wouldnt mind hearing you aurgument for it as well.

PM sent as well.

The "LOL" at the end of your response invokes a laid-back guy, having a forum/chat conversation, and getting what was funny about the joke.

You weren't funny, the "Brian" misspelling was. Rest assured buddy, there was no implied laughing at ya!

...this won't be the last joke though! Heheheh...

/hunting for my next pray :D

P.S. We're all years-long friends here, adidamps2. Except for a few incidents involving newbies (I'm not refering to you, here), we haven't had situations of insults. And btw, welcome to the Dark Sun boards, and sorry again for the confusion.

I would start a few years before Kalaks fall just so the PCs can get a feel for the hopelessness of the world before the events of the Prism Pentad. It will make them appreciate the new found freedom in Tyr and also the downside in cities like Raam and Balic.

i like that...plus it gives me a reason to use the City of Dust and Fire information i have..because once the Cerulean Storm hit's, it makes the whole damn module/book useless it might also give the players a chance to participate in the over throw/death of Kalak and maybe play a hand in the events that take place to create the Cerulean Storm. yes, yes, i think i shall go that route. thanks for the insiration.
