Elemental Paladins

Feb 23, 2008 18:37:31 In the original dark sun boxed set, it says that there are no more paladins because:

"The idea of serving good and right for the simple rewards of peace and inner faith, faded from the world long ago"

Well, first of all it says there were paladins at one point. Either during the blue or green age (Hmm, halfling paladins?) Since there were no deities, they must have been elemental paladins, right?

There is Crimson Knight in Undertyr who seems to be the athasian equivalent of the Krynn death knight (but isn't evil) who is kept alive through his faith to his "god" This of course would depend on whether you think Athas had gods in the past, or whether it could be some kind of entity in the plane of fire masquerading as one. You're free to choose anyway, but we all know the game material gives contradictory info as to whether there ever were god priests on athas (cept for that fire giant who isn't from athas)

Second, peace and inner faith are in short supply on Athas, there are many cruel injustices that spawn vengers and revenants every year. I definitely think there would be demand for paladins even in the brown age/age of the SK's.

Feb 24, 2008 10:37:19 I had developed a sort of evil paladin, loyal to a sorcerer-king, doesn't cast spells, but controls through fear, suppression, etc. Is basically on one part a bodyguard for the SK, another part is the police force (including monitoring higher-ranking templars), and on the third part is the military commanders and generals of a city-state's armies.

yeah, I have it tucked away. I was going to republish my stuff on my new site, but then with 4E around the corner, I've instead been looking at the non-mechanical aspects of Dark Sun I like to work on, and develop them a bit while 4E gets ready to march out the door.

I can dig it out and repost it here if wanted.
