At 28 I'm too young to have ever cared about that guy. Still, it's the passing of an era.

:D

I'm sure he would be laughing at this one! And yes, this is definitely a big loss for the RPG community as a whole.

Gary's afterword from the last page of the 1st edition DMG:

"It is the spirit of the game, not the letter of the rules, which is important. Never hold to the letter written, nor allow some barracks room lawyer to force quotations from the rule book upon you. If it goes against the obvious intent of the game. As you hew the line with respect to conformity to major systems and uniformity of play in general, also be certain the gme is mastered by you and not by your players. Within the broad parameters given in the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons volumes, you are creator and final arbiter. By ordering things as they should be, the game as a whole first, your campaign next, and your participants thereafter, you will be playing Advanced Dungeons & Dragons as it was meant to be. May you find as much pleasure in so doing as the rest of us do!"

Thank you Mr. Gygax for the uncountable hours we have spent enjoying your creation. You will be greatly missed.

As someone who is 44, I do care about his passsing. He was the father of role-playing and role-playing games. He gave me outlet for my creativity and introduced me to a whole new world.

Gary Gygax was the first DM and he will always be remembered.

He also had 6 kids. Talk about creating your own core players!;)
