Hello Birthright fans. Birthright is still around.

I'm working on a new site and forums for a 2e AD&D Birthright game I am going to run on OpenRPG, mid next month.

With Birthright, the obligatory question is,

Will it be a regular non-political 2E game, a Birthright political campaign level only game, or will it be a combination of the two?

Ah, good question.

I'm not using the normal Cerilia / Birthright map, I'm using my own campaign, own deities, etc. So it will be Birthright mechanics in a different landscape.

2nd Edition AD&D, Run via openRPG (or WOTC Chat) for roleplaying, and domain turns most likely via a forums, or email. RP day as yet to be determined, based on what seems to be the most committed player's schedules, as I work it out.

Since I'm not sure of the skill levels / Birthright experience that I am going to end up with as potential players, I am thus (for now) aiming for the default basic:

"Collective Rule"
Not all PCs will have to be regents, but All PCs will be concentrated in a single realm of overlapping domains, sharing responsibility for governing it, as follows:

The Realm is that of The Duchy of Perrinland.

PC Priests, can be heads of the following Temples:
Almatrah - God of Suffering, and Endurance (Male or Female PC)
Nur - Goddess of Healing (Female PC only)

PC Paladins, Priests, or Monks, can be heads of the following Temples:
Heln - God of Noble War (Male PC only)
St. Culbert - God of the philosophy of Good (Male PC only)

A PC Mage Character would be the Wizard of Westron Perrinland. (Male or Female PC)

A Thief Character would be master of a guild, yet to be named. (Male or Female PC)

One (most likely a Fighter, or Ranger type) character could possibly control the area in and around the ruined city of Whitecliff, as a governor of the province of Whitecliff. The former governor was assassinated, and the city was destroyed by a comet, so the person taking the job of ruling the Whitecliff area will have a lot of work to do, in rebuilding it.

Other players will portray non-regent courtiers, lieutenants, bodyguards, advisors or minor nobles in the Duchy, as they wish.

The Regent of the Duchy of Perrinland, Lord Fox, will be an NPC.

-----------------------------------------------------------

The Basic setup is as follows:

The Land of Etarnon is the home of many nations, for a period of time stretching back over fourteen millennia, when the ancient people known as the Eldar sprang forth from the River of Life, and spread across the surface of the world. Now, due to many factors, the land is losing the power of magic.

The Land is generally mountainous, and hilly, with many highlands. Broad rivers rush through rolling hills, and vast tracts of forest, all dotted by ruins of the ancient, lost cities and battlefields that pre-date the current era. Especially dry and lacking in rainfall to the west, the Land becomes more fertile, and green, far to the east, with nearly constant rain, and overcast skies, where the Elves dwell in the lush rainforests of the Olven Kingdom of Arduil.

The Land is home to scores of Counties, Duchies, and Kingdoms of Humankind. Lesser settlements of Olven, Hovit, and Dwarven inhabitants also exist. Many of the wilder areas of the Land are ruled by the rampaging bands of Humanoid raiders, both Goblin, and Ork, which typically dwell in the least hospitable or accursed areas.

Banditry is a common problem for many settlements, especially those located near the larger forests.

Players in the campaign have played out and determined 150 or so years of the recent history, in game, since 1979, when the campaign was started as a 1st Edition Game.
