As the title says. I've been watching Stargate SG1 and the Ori are rampagin through the galaxy. Anyway I'm thinking of a Cult Of Rajaat and I'm wondering about mechanics for it. How would you do fake powers? Heres some things I'm considering.

1. Ardents/Wizards posing as priests.
2. Cult memebers being Ur Priests fromt eh COmplete Divine (PrC that steals their spells)
3. Genuine Cleircs or Templars stealing spells somehow.

Any ideas?

#3: Genuine Clerics granted spells from the Black (Necromancy?) or give Rajaat an Epic version of the spell "Imbue with Spell Ability" or a combination of both.

Kind of makes me wonder though, When did the Living Vortices come into play - via Rajaat, or later. If they exist because of Rajaat, you'd think he would have access to something very similar.

I thought of two ideas.
You could use elemental clerics. The cult founder/ high priest is an elemental cleric say a water cleric. He set up the cult and recruits all the members convincing them the power comes from Rajaat and not the water lords.

Or you could use templars. Not templars from any of the current sorcerer-kings, but from the headless champions. Sacha and Wyan. You could say that they underwent the process to bind the vortex to themselves before they sided with Rajaat during the rebelleion. Their bodies are still tied to the vortex. and somewhere someone has gotten to one or both of the bodies and uses it to funnel spells to the templars of the cult of Rajaat.

You don't need to misderict believers about the source of the prior's...er, "priests or Rajaat"'s powers.

Just choose, among the dozen power sources availlable, the one that corresponds to a people, energy source, or place related to or under the influence or dominion of Rajaat.

Right now that source would be the Black, due to the Pentad novels indicating that shadow giants can go in the Black to the place where there's a mystical "interface" with the Hollow and litteraly talk to Rajaat. The priests would be shadow wizards, and Rajaat's emissaries would be shadow giants.

A counter to this religion - for the everyday follower, that is - would be revelations by high level shadow wizards non-aligned with Rajaat that the Black (as an energy source) is not limited in its accessibility to Rajaat's followers.

Another option would be the cerulean storm as an energy source, and Tithian as Rajaat's emissary. Tithian did want to free Rajaat and become a sorcerer-king.

Not so much priors but I'm leaning towards the "Cilt of Rajaat" being wizards and in a twist not defilers (evil preservers?). Also maybe having true clerics via an elemental heretic feat with 3-4 domains to choose from- magic, purification, etc.

I thought Rajaat was a guy... and at this point just a skeleton. I guess, being the Inventor of Magic could allow him to alter his anatomy...

Sounds like an interesting idea to add even more flavour to a setting that is already quite, uh... Flavourful. :P
I like it!
Aside from the city-states, where else would one find a temple of the Cult of Rajaat?

Its an idea for a post prism pentad game set in FY 11-15 or FY 1015 where my current game is set. You wouldn't find a temple to Rajaat but cells or master and apprentice a'la Sith type of thiu

Cool, I like it. I'm assuming their purpose is to summon Rajaat back into the Prime Material plane...

Yeah thats the main goal I statted Rajaat out and posted him here. Not sure if I want to make the cult human centric or defiler/preserver centric. Side goals might be erradicating non humans on the sligh, or aquiring halfing technology etc or recovering toys form Rajaats time. Very open to suggestions and I might do a write up based on feedback.

My first impression was that this would be a sort of doomsday cult, bent on revivng their "dark god". Since Rajaat's goals were to destroy all but humans and halflings (or was it just halflings), I'd say they'd be primarily human. Perhaps they hope to be made into a new set of Champions to one day rival the SKs?

He uses humans to waste all the other races, and then exterminates them when they are weakened from all the wars he has been having them fight.

Considering Rajaat made the Athas "life=magic=power=altered reality via mind over realty via magic from life" connection and could impart such knowledge or even the effects on others, there is no reason why he couldn't "grant spells" or powers to those willing try to help him escape.

According to one version of the story, Rajaat was making his Champions with the Dark lens and Pristine Tower when it attracted Badna, a 5th dimensional omni-elemental vagabond capable of sticking parts of itself (called "fingers") into primordial lobes of living creatures to observe them (2nd eddition Complete Psionics handbook:page 122,Dragon Kings:page 11,Preservers and Defilers of Athas:page 18). I think Rajaat might have been as interesting as the 15 Champions, being the one causing the transformation and all and turning an entire star from Yellow to red, so it could be that a "finger" of Badna also may be within Rajaat as well allowing Rajaat to grant spells to potential Templars.(You really think Rajaat didn't sip some of that power himself considering all 15 champions combined could only imprison him and not slay him outright, and even then if his prision isn't maintained he WILL escape)

Also, let us not forget that Rajaat can plant a suggestion into any Cerulean Wizard tapping into the Cerulean Storm to get power from it
