It's clear that Glantri and Alphatia are the typical 'homelands' of Mystara's most powerful spellcasters.

Is there a specific region/clan/land in those countries that would be especially good as the origin of a specialist Conjurer focused on summoning? Of course, other places outside of those countries might be intersting choices too; so, any idea is welcome.

Here's something that may be interesting:

Verteni - A people thought to be closely in tune with the natural world, its needs and promise. Their teachings were mostly abandoned in the years after the Alphatian conquest, in favour of more efficient arcane spells.

Taken from here. It says it came from the MMB but I can't find the thread.

Anyhow, the part that triggered my thoughts are bolded; these people may have specialized in natural and conjuration magics but were generally marginalized as being inefficient. It's a thought...

Herath, too.

Depends on what he is summoning. Summoning intelligent monsters might not be appreciated in Limn, for example. Spider-like being are likely to be summoned in Herath. Demonologists (Demon summoners) are found in Alphatia (see http://pandius.com/dmnol2.html )

Noble wizards across the Savage Coast are often Conjurers, as are Militant wizards.
Glantrian wizards tend to side more on their Secret Craft (Necromancy, Elementalism, Dracology, Alchemy, Illusionism, Witchcraft, Cryptomancy), none of which seems to have a specific affinity to Conjuration/Summoning, though Elementalist are powerful (if very focused) summoners.

Places in Mystara, even magical places, seem to be more focused on culture than on a magical speciality.

The Ierendi Fire Mages seem like good candidates...

Yes, they would have a good mix of specialties, given the density of wizards, though Elementalists are likely more common. However, Mystaran wizards seem more oriented towards Elementalism (Honor Island, Glantri, and Alphatia all have strong Elemental magic traditions), with a few others specialties (Illusions, Necromancy, Alchemy) thrown in.

Perhaps this has to do with the Spheres each favoring an element. Having Necromancy thrown in, that would represent Entropy aswell...

Yes, and also the fact that Mystara has many more elemental vortices than any other setting -- reaching the Inner Planes from Mystara is quite easier than reaching the Outer Planes, for example, since there are several well known accesses that require only protection from the elements. Thus, more mages can study the Inner Planes firsthand than in other settings.

Depends on what he is summoning.

In 3.5 terms, I'm specifically referring to a Wizard specialized in the various Conjuration (Summoning) spells, one who calls various creatures, some from various planes, to fight for him etc.

Thanks to all for the ideas so far.

Hmmm...I had never really thought about this as a unique Mystaran feature. Something worth keeping in mind for our future projects!
