A follow-up from this thread:
http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=573943

This seems to be our most ambitious project yet. Still, there was a time when Greyhawk seemed impossibly far off and look where we are now. Any chance we can get a post total rivalling DL? I would love to see the day when I can make a "Catch up with Dark Sun" thread....

Well, speaking as one who loves the classic games....I think we can catch em lol. I loved the original dragonlance books and games but once it went SAGA it was downhill for me. When I first got into RPG's almost twenty years ago (sheesh I am old) a friend bought me the Time of the Dragon boxed set. I used several species and settings in my Mystara campaign. Loved the savage mind flayers!

How far ahead of us is the Dragonlance forum in terms of posts?

Dragonlance == 49,466 posts.
Mystara == 22,355 post.

Everyone will have to post twice as much.

"Do or do not; There is no try" ;) :D

It appears we've entered the epic levels and have set our sights on truly daunting goal. But it's all alright fellow party members, the PCs have the favour of the DM!

Epic indeed!

I really like Dragonlance. Most of our AD&D campaigns used that setting back in the days. We had two GMs using that setting while I was doing Mystara and the others were GMing other RPGs altogether. My group always had this tradition that almost everyone were expected to GM their own game/setting.

While not many people liked the SAGA system, our group loved it. The 5th Age setting also, at first seemed to have alot more room for the PCs to make a difference whereas the War of the Lance era was dominated the characters from the novels. Ofcourse, soon enough novels started appearing and defining that age aswell, and IMO took the 5th age to a much less interesting and much more standard, unimaginative setting.

My main attraction to the setting was the early novels though. The Chronicles and the Legends trilogies really fascinated me in my early teens. Even if they seemed to run out of ideas in later novels, Hickman and Weiss still remain really good writers. I had the pleasure of talking to Margaret Weiss briefly at GenCon one year, and she seemed like a really nice person too

So we are up against a real giant this time indeed! Are there any other groups at WotC we could use as benchmarks on the way there, or should we just reach for this true goal right away?

I still can't believe that we are among the top three Other Worlds. And many of these worlds had offical upgrades to 3E whereas we did not. An amazing feat

Interestingly enough, the Ebberon General forum is currently only at 28,778 posts....

Good news is we don't seem to be in any risk of Greyhawk catching up to us any soon.

Thanks for the update Hugin! I am sure you meant to write May ;)

The winner this month by a long shot is... the D&D OOP forum?

Good for them! They are no threat to us, but I guess it does show us that we could have done better ;)

I would also include the Ebberon General forum, which is now leading on us by only 6,333 posts ;)

It is nice to see that we are gaining steadily on Dragonlance and that even Dark Sun's gain on us doesnt seem as intimidating as it once did...

Good call. I think we could drop the tracking of Ravenloft now anyway.

True, but Dark Sun is still intimidating.
