I'm currently DMing FRE1: Shadowdale, which in essence encompasses the casting of the gods from the heavens and the PCs search for the missing Tablets of Fate to send them back. We're having quite a good time with it right now, but I'm not sure that the PCs realize how serious the situation actually is. Has anybody here run the adventure or have any tips regarding it? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : avenger2003 Date : 10-29-03 05:37 PM Have you gotten to the part where Mystra tries to get past Helm and ascend the Stairway? If not, I hope you either have priests or followers of Helm or Mystra. When Helm kills Mystra, role-play the aftermath between characters. Personally, it was an awkward moment for my priest of Helm when I blurted out "Praise Helm!" as Mystra died.:embarrass Another good scene would be the pursuit of the characters as they are wrongfully implicated in Elminster's "death". As our party leader exclaimed as we fled "Gods! What did this man do? Give out gold to every villager for miles!?" All in all, a hilarious(now) moment.:) If you're trying to convey the serious nature of these scenes, I'd advise dramatic music to convey the mood. After Mystra explodes, describe to any mages how they crumple to the ground with their insides afire, leaving them with a feeling as if some part of themselves is lost afterwards. This tends to keep players wondering what exactly happened to them. Even non-mages should be concerned as mayhaps Helm turns to where they stand/cower and tells them to prepare themselves for judgement just before he resumes his watch over the Staircase. Detailing the escape from Shadowdale as the locals pursue our heroes through the forests and fields opens many opportunities to split up the group or to impress upon them that they are in deep poop as they huddle in the wheat as angry mobs look for them. Hope this helps, let me know how they did. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Shylo Slick Date : 11-03-03 04:03 AM Don't force the actually module play, let things happen randomly and honestly... Don't forget about the hundreds of avatars and the other walking powerhouses stalking the realms either or their epic encounters and disasters that happened all across the realms... I let the random events happen regardless of the outcome, and palyed all the avatars and realm powerhouses intelligently, the whole affair ended up taking a few game years and ended with a epic clash between the few remaining avatars leading the forces of good, evil, and nuetral in an all out battle in Myth Drannor and the surrounding country side, not to mention the hundreds of realms power players all fighting to the death to stake their claim at who should be in charge of the realms, it seems a lot of the people decided the tablets shouldn't be found, to keep the conflict from ending, seems all the priest with the loss of their power took a heavy beating early on as old scores were settled. In the end the realms never looked better "i.e., more sinister, more dangerous, more deadly, more monsters". The every day average random encounter monster was the ultimate big winner of the Gods War, as all the outlying villages and towns where wiped away and a majority of the larger cities were reduced to smoking war ravaged over-populated and plague ridden ruins, not to mention nearly two thirds of the so-called good and evil powerhouses and organizations were permanetly destroyed and a most of the major magical items also perished... Random magical and physical chaos alone accounted for half the destruction across the realms. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
