If so, would it count against the paladin's magic item total? The scenerio is as follows. A paladin's mom gave him a flower before she died. The party magic-user cast Preserve on it (and he's thinking of paying for a Permanency spell to be cast on it). Would this count against his 4 misc. magic items? Thanks for the help. (edited for spelling) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : jasper Date : 10-28-03 04:47 PM nice dm no nice flavor. icky nasty dm Yes but bonus xp if you find creative ways to use it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Master Harper Date : 10-28-03 06:31 PM I don't think so. While the flower may be preserved by magic, it doesn't hold any useful magic ability that might aid the paladin, except the power of loving memories and sentiment. I would say it doesn't count against his item limit. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : dogstar Date : 10-29-03 11:00 AM No it doesn't - Magic items are not items with permancy cast on them (which costs 1 Con loss for most spells). Why not just press the flower? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : lhmloa Date : 10-29-03 12:39 PM Thanks for the replies. I didn't think it would, and wasn't going to count it, but a player brought up the old "radiating a magical aura" thing. So I was looking for additional opinions. It's not my character, so I'm not sure why he wouldn't just press it. Anyway, here's the response I got from the Sage: "I don't recommend counting permanent spell effect on a paladin's person as "magic items." Items bearing permanent effects are a gray area, but I'd exclude items that have no intrinsic value or game utility. A preserved flower from mom doesn't qualify as a magic item. A preserved medusa's head the paladin can use to petrify enemies (presuming that your DM allows such a thing) definitely does." Thanks again for all the help. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
