If so, could someone give me a 2e pc level at which he would be an appropriate encounter? Does he rely more on martial strength (fighter) or stealth (rogue)? Or magic? Thanks in advance.... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Gadodel Date : 10-30-03 06:09 AM I've seen many a homebrew detailing this individual. Back when I was emersed in 2E, I had found a site that had some really good write ups. Of course, that was over five years ago. The site no longer exists. IRC, he was 12 HD. He some Spellcasting ability-I think he could some spells that were up to 5th level. His ability scores ranged from 18-25, which made him quite potent. He had tons of bodyguards around him at all times... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Algolei Date : 10-30-03 09:10 AM Well, a quick Google came up with this site: http://advancedkid.narod.ru/new_20.htm -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Shylo Slick Date : 11-03-03 04:21 AM The Sultan is a god, and he is on his home plane, then his pasha council members of up to maybe 12 of them or demi-powers, and each of them have a large entourage of nobel and assassin effreti, not to mention all their special fire dwelling monster pets, servants, and an army of efreeti guardsmen... You would need a small army of FR 2e style adventures, equipped with artifact weapons, and all the right magical protection, with each adventurer in the 30th level class range, and they would still all get themself killed. SUICIDE MISSION, there's a reason the City of Brass has never been conqured, it's because you can't get a group of dieties to trust in each other long enough to conquer it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Thailfi Date : 11-03-03 08:28 AM I think the guy was just asking about the Sultan, Pasha, or whatever. I don't think he was asking about the best way to conquer the city. I have never seen anything published about him. I would say he falls far short of divinity. If the demon princes and archdevils don't rate as gods, this guy wouldn't either. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : jasamcarl Date : 11-03-03 09:57 AM Originally posted by Shylo Slick The Sultan is a god, and he is on his home plane, then his pasha council members of up to maybe 12 of them or demi-powers, and each of them have a large entourage of nobel and assassin effreti, not to mention all their special fire dwelling monster pets, servants, and an army of efreeti guardsmen... You know, I'll never understand the need of some to inflate the power of iconic monsters to levels beyond the ability for pcs to handle, especially when there is no support in any source materials for such a conclusion. 'SUICIDE MISSION' = 'NOT AN OPTION' and basically demeans the status of the pcs as heroes and this game as anything other than a crappy generic fantasy novel in some fan-boy's head. I dunno, a lot of people seem **** about changing the default D&D setting, even to the point of attempting to discourage others from doing so in their private games when it comes up. Thanks to everyone else..... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : The Spellcasting Sorcerer Date : 11-03-03 02:45 PM Originally posted by jasamcarl You know, I'll never understand the need of some to inflate the power of iconic monsters to levels beyond the ability for pcs to handle, especially when there is no support in any source materials for such a conclusion. Thanks to everyone else..... I totally agree, Jasamcarl. I've always thought that in AD&D, anything is possible, if the players want it badly enough. Of course, they have to be intelligent and resourceful as well. Thus, if they want to take on the Grand Sultan of the Efreeti, they certainly can do so; but they'd better have a brilliant plan because I certainly won't make it easy for them. In all fairness, though, I do recall reading somewhere that within his city, the Sultan wields the might of a greater power. So, while it should be just a step below suicide mission to slay the Sultan, by no means should it be impossible. Even gods can die, after all. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Surcus Date : 11-06-03 02:07 PM The Epic Level Handbook describes the Sultan as being 60th level wizard, though never stats him out more thourughly than that. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : jasamcarl Date : 11-06-03 04:26 PM Originally posted by Surcus The Epic Level Handbook describes the Sultan as being 60th level wizard, though never stats him out more thourughly than that. Hmmm...which page? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Surcus Date : 11-06-03 06:00 PM Don`t remember, but near the end...it is in the adventure in Kerleth`s tower, where he is supposed to have cast a spell as a 60th level wizard somewhere. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : theDwarf Date : 11-08-03 10:46 AM Thread Title : Re: Efreet Sultan in the City of Brass Originally posted by jasamcarl Ok, was this guy statted in any published material. K&C2212 Sir Robilar's City of Brass Kenzer & Company (http://www.kenzerco.com/) campaign supplement for HackMaster has stats :D (to "convert" to 2e remove the "20hp kicker" ... if you have questions on it feel free to contact me for details) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Nightdruid Date : 11-08-03 11:00 AM Originally posted by Shylo Slick SUICIDE MISSION, there's a reason the City of Brass has never been conqured, it's because you can't get a group of dieties to trust in each other long enough to conquer it. "Never" is not quite true; 1e DMG, Codex of Infinite Planes was used by Tzunk to conquer the City of Brass. Of course, that was 1e, back when the Sultan wasn't a god. :smirk: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Arilou_skiff Date : 11-12-03 07:34 AM Many Iconics in 2nd. ed. had the powers of Gods while in their home-location (Primus for instance, as did Graz'zt and Dispater) so do, apparently, the Tempering and Eternal Flame of Truth. I made his stats once, they might still be there somewhere... floating aorund on these boards... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
