Why not resurrect Birthright as part of a wave on nostalgia?

Hasbro did with G.I. Joe and Transformers.

It would be easy to do since a lot of work has already been done.

There's a fan based project out to convert BR to 3rd edition.

Other than that, I don't think so.

The big question is what a 4E Birthright would look like.

The focus on points of light and individual PCs who gain large amounts of power while fighting across cinematic battle scenes is a bit away from the focus of Birthright on armies, political maneuvering and maintaining nations, temples and guilds.

Adding dragonborn into Birthright would not work well at all, and changing the elves to eladrin and the other kind would change Birthright elves for the worse IMO.

I would realistically expect to see Greyhawk, Ravenloft and probably Dark Sun get printed in 4E terms before Birthright.

But they do need to maintain copyrights, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a few token articles on Birthright in 4E. There were a few tidibts in 3E from WoTC, and Rich Baker and Ed Stark are still working at WoTC(I think).

-Didn't stop 'em from doing it to the Realms. ;)

-Rich does, I know. Ed Stark, I don't know.

With the "one new setting every year" plan that WotC has in place, I wouldn't be surprised if Birthright happens eventually, although it is sure to be one of the later additions to the list. Otherwise, what would be the point of this new Birthright board?

And if I might add to Lord Karsus' response to NPC Dave, WotC has already shown that they are willing to make drastic changes to their cash-cow setting to make it fit into the new scheme, so Birthright (or any other setting to be re-released) is probably due for a 4e makeover as well.

Maybe but if I had to guess Darksun, Krynn, Planescape and Dragonlance will be done before it and those only after FR and Eberron.

birthright elves are already pretty unique.. no maximum lifespan amongst other stuff
