As son as what bought my DotI box set and was reading Book 3 (Player´s guide to the Alphatia), did I notice in the Alphatian calendar (pg 20) does something exist similar as a Day of Dread (28 Amphimir/28 Vatermont).. even before WotI... can anybody explain that??

the calendar still explains that 28 Amphimir is an extra day of the calendar (it doesn't belong to the average month nor the new month of the year, being of transition) but he is described with all the characteristics of the day of the dread.
that is strange, very strange.
did I only care with that? can anybody help myself with some explanation??

Wow. I never noticed that before. I can imagine that this was probably how the idea for a Day of Dread first began. Here's an idea of how to explain it from an in-game perspective:

It says that "no magic works in the Empire" so maybe it only affects magic of Alphatian origin (as in magic that was based on developments from their old world and not on Mystara). Perhaps it is an astronomical phenomenon that is affecting Alphatian magic, therefore it doesn't affect any other native magics.

For this hypothesis to work we have to assume that Alphatians have too much pride in their own magical sciences to give up on them and adapt to the native systems, and that an Alphatian's greatest goal would be to overcome this 'feared inconvenience'. They must believe that Alphatian magics are more advanced and potent then native magics and worth the continued research and development.

The discovery of why this Day When Magic Fails happens and how to overcome it may be one of the primary goals of the Grand Council of Alphatia. After landfall, they found that "...the very nature of magic was different, and mages had to relearn their concepts of magic and its use." (player's guide to Alphatia, page 5). The Grand Council may have been formed not only to aid in rulership, but to investigate why their spells were weak or even failed in this new world, and to regain their former magical strength.

As time went on, they learned how to adapt their knowledge of magic to this strange land and regained much of their magical power. However, despite all they had learned they could not prevent their magics from failing on this one particular day. Early in their history on Mystara, the day after all their magic would fail was viewed as a new beginning, and a whole year was ahead of them to learn how to overcome it. From here they count down the days till magic failed them again.

Thus, it quickly become identified as the first day of the year.

The day without magic preceeded WOTI and even DotE. It appears first in Gaz3 (Kald28). It was part of the meteorological forecast for the year. On this day, there is a comet that comes by and has a chance to disrupt magic on Mystara. Glantri and Alphatia know about it and take preparations accordingly.

WOTI simply made the old annual event have a probability of occuring p = 1.
