I'm preparing for my first Dark Sun campaign ever, and I can't seem to find a picture of a sand howler anywhere (other than in the Dark Sun computer game). Could someone perhaps point me to a book that may have one in it? Thanks!

I always wondered what use evolution would have found for spikes on the belly pointing backwards...:D

"Tonight on the Pyreen Wildlife Conservation channel, follow the reputed Gratt brothers tracking Sand Howlers..."

"As you can see, the Sand Howler backs up on its prey to impale it on its belly spikes..."

I can't let this foul beast be presented in such a manner. What an abomination. I'll see what I can come up with and post it. Wish me luck.

So it dawned on me. I have no artistic talent. This is gonna be a challenge.

Ok...giant fire-breathing reptiles that violate the laws of physics and biology...and you guys are concerned about some spikes on the underbelly of a sand howler making evolutionary sense? :D

With the prevalence of creepy cactus monsters that grab you from beneath the sand, those belly-spikes make perfect sense to me :D

Oh, not at all, the spikes are not the problem.
It's the fact that they're pointing backwards.:P

Yeah, I sure do love Baxa.

It sure is spiky art.

Oh, my apologies then. That makes much more sense.
