As a follow-up to the old Blackmoor Mock Covers thread and the Gazetteer Covers thread, I figured we might as well make a new one.

Starting with another of Bruce's ideas that never came to be....

Would you have bought this product if you came across it in the 90s? What would you have liked to see it contain?

Nice work on all of these havard! I think you haven't gotten some recent comments maybe from the of the wonkiness with the forum reconstruction.

In regards to the box-set, something along the lines of the Hollow World set would seem a suitable starting point- DM book, Player Book, Extend Adventure Book and plenty of maps.

Jamie and Thorfinn posting within 24 hours of each other? WOW! Now we need Marco, Jenni, and Estlor--It'll be a family reunion! lol

Great to hear from you guys again--even if it's under less-than-optimal conditions.

Roger

PS And Havard--you don't need comments on these covers--you well know they're good. I, for one, will not feed into your extensive ego. (But the next time I post something of substance, I expect tons of feedback and ego manipulation.)

Good to hear from you Traianus! Yeah it has been a mess these last few days, but I am trying to return things to normality as much as possible now.

Yeah that makes sense. I love the set-up of the Hollow World box.

I guess Bruce Heard's idea was to place a new Blackmoor in the Known World, but I would prefer if this boxed set covered the original Blackmoor setting with ways of Time travel connecting the settings....

I know, it has been really nice to hear from everyone again.

GRRR...
Hehe, go ahead...I know you are working on some project or other, right?

I bought just about everything that came out in the 90s, especially when I heard that the line was being suspended (note how they never "cancel" anything outright). Of course, I was in school, living at home, and working part-time so I had both time and money.

I would have liked to see Blackmoor get the Gazetteer treatment, perhaps divided into "ages": early barony, thriving Medieval kingdom, then at its technological height just before the Great Rain of Fire.

Another product I'd have bought up in about 2.3 seconds would have been an "Expedition" type higher level adventure/sourcebook detailing the "current day" ruins of an ancient civilization locked for eons under polar ice, suddenly revealed and ripe for exploitationexploration

There has been some new material published for Blackmoor covering Riders of the Hak, Temple of the Frog, Clockwork and Steam to name a few on the latest edition of Dave Arneson's 'Blackmoor' available from Code Monkey Publishing.

I already did DA5-10, but I still had some more ideas so I ended up extending the series up til DA15.

Here is the first one, DA11:

IMAGE(http://www.blackmoor.mystara.us/img/DA11MockCover.jpg)

The Egg of Coot was also featured on a previous mock cover ofcourse, but that was a "Return to" module whereas this would have been the first time the Egg appeared.

Would we buy them? Are you kidding?

I snapped up everything Mystara I could get my hands on back then. Of course now, having been deprived of shiny new published materials for 15 years, even seeing your covers brings up a whole wave of enthusiasm to get my hands on that book/set/whatever and read it! Unfortunately attempts to open the cover just get my computer screen dirty...

Seriously, these covers are beautiful! Very nicely done. The only suggestion I would make is to change the title font for the module cover. If I remember right, I think they generally used Korinna for the titles. The rest of the text looks good, though.

Thanks for the feedback Thorf! I haven't been able to get my hands on the Korinna font yet, but thanks for pointing that one out.

Here's another one for your enjoyment:

Only a few more to go in the DA series now...

The illustration by Larry Elmore, may not be the most exciting one, but the title gives some hints on what I have planned for this obscure realm in the world of Blackmoor... ;)

These are fun. Larry Elmore is, for me, the defining artist for D&D, and a lot of times, I'll at least look at -- if not buy -- something just because I see his art on the cover.

So when do we get to see the back cover blurbs? ;)

He's certainly one for me too. I can't say why but I think it may have to do with the expert set.

Thanks for the kind words guys!

So when do we get to see the back cover blurbs? ;)

That's a really good idea! I need to think about it though. Maybe some of you want to help me out there?

"Sorcerors of Rhun" should be an exploration of the Kingdom of Rhun type adventure. IMC Rhun is a Kingdom that was founded by Sorcerors. If you are using Classic D&D, a Sorceror is just a Magic-Users, but in 3E that has a different ressonance ofcourse, which is an intentional duality. Ofcourse, at the time of the adventure, the Kingdom is in ruins after having suffered the rampage of Marfeldt the Barbarian...

Anyway, today's Blackmoor Cover:

Hope you liked this one as well. Tomorrow we should see the last of the Blackmoor themed Mock Covers, so stay tuned!

Thanks guys!

I think you guys have to help me out a little with DA15. While I really like the idea of the Great Rain of Fire as an Immortal-level adventure, I am not really sure what it should be about.

It could be about trying to prevent the GRoF, but that would destroy the Known World at would probably be forbidden by the Immortals at this point. I could see it being about trying to save someone or something before or during the destruction caused by the GRoF... but what needs to be saved?

I could see it being about trying to save someone or something before or during the destruction caused by the GRoF... but what needs to be saved?

A couple of notions come to mind:

1) Perhaps someone else is trying to prevent the Great Rain of Fire for their own reasons, and the heroes actually have to stop them and allow the cataclysm in order to prevent a paradox that would destroy time? The Oard come to mind as villains for this piece (something akin to what they try in module CM6).

2) Maybe they aren't preventing The Great Rain of Fire, but A Great Rain of Fire? In this case, two scenarios come to mind:

2a) Asterius is said to have destroyed an artifact of Thanatos that would have kicked off an earlier GRoF in the past. Perhaps the Heroes are either allies of Asterius or sent by him (as mortal or immortal?) to stop Thanatos' artifact?

2b) Rheddrian Benekander stopped Ogdoban Treel from setting off a chain reaction with the Beagle's core engines that would have destroyed the planet centuries before the GRoF (but possibly still within the time frame of the DA series- WotI says it was "many years- perhaps centuries" later, but doesn't specify). Maybe the PCs have to stop this from happening?

Heck, 2a and 2b might even possibly be combined somehow.

Given my preference for master level capstones that force deep danged-if-you-do, danged-if-you-don't scenarios, I'd suggest having this as the DA master capstone where the modern-era characters must go back and stop a Thanatos-plot to destroy the world/universe ... and the only way to do so is to trigger (or ensure) the Great Rain of Fire.

Seriously, Havard, you should consider plotting out these mock-ups and then writing them. I think this would be a very well received project.

thanks for the suggestions and words of encouragement. I will definately look into following up these with actual write-ups.
