[MYSTARA] Compiling Threads for us

#1 Cthulhudrew May 24, 2008 1:40:31	Hey all- Going to start a list of compiled threads from the old Mystara board so that it can hopefully be stickied at the top of the list (and I'll try and keep it updated), but wanted to solicit ideas on how best to organize things. Should I try and do it alphabetically by Thread Title, or should I break it down into some other format (I was thinking maybe go by region: Known World, Alphatian Seas, Skothar, General- and then break the threads down by title within each region). Suggestions? (Also, just a note here to let the board Mods know that this isn't going to be the Thread compilation thread that I would like to have stickied, ultimately. That will be another thread.)
#2 havard May 24, 2008 6:28:01	Great initiative 'drew! First of all, don't make it too complicated for yourself. Some categorization would be useful, but the most important thing is that we get everything collected. If we are talking categories, I think your idea sounds good. Perhaps in addition to geographical categories you could add some more thematical ones like: * Rules Conversions * Immortals * Maps and Graphics Just an idea. Any way others can help you? Oh yeah, if we can get a thread like that stickied that would be awesome. If not we should all copy it into our sigs. Havard
#3 Cthulhudrew May 24, 2008 8:16:52	First of all, don't make it too complicated for yourself. My great, fatal flaw, I'm afraid. Those categories are pretty good suggestions. Any way others can help you? This thread and suggestions is a good first step. Once I actually get a format and get going, I'd definitely be open to anyone making suggestions for threads they know of/recall that I've missed. Oh yeah, if we can get a thread like that stickied that would be awesome. If not we should all copy it into our sigs. I saw a post by one of the Mods in (IIRC) the Greyhawk Thread list thread that mentioned he would be willing to sticky Thread listings for each of the worlds. So I'm guessing he meant for everyone, and not just Greyhawk.

Havard Ya, that's what I tried. I experimented with it to see if it would work. It seemed to work for a while but I guess the search result page has a time limit. Oh well. Back to the drawing board for Wile E Coyote.

I still couldn't find my threads by searching for [Mystara] in the title, but it did help in a way; I was able to tag my old threads with a unique search identifier without performing thread necromancy. So, if people want any search for [Mystara] to show your Mystaran threads, you can hand-edit in [Mystara] to the title without disrupting the flow of the forum.
#22 Hugin May 30, 2008 23:33:57	I still couldn't find my threads by searching for [Mystara] in the title, but it did help in a way; If you go into the advanced search function you should be able to find all threads started by whoever you want. Type your user name and you'll get all the threads you created. That's how I found all mine.

#25 Hugin May 31, 2008 9:23:47	advanced search, where's that one? If you click "Search this Forum" a small window will open up and on the bottom "Advanced Search" appears. You'll go to a new screen where to the right you'll see "Search by User Name", a line to enter a name, and then a drop down list where you can choose between "Find Posts by User" or "Find Threads Started by User".

You'll go to a new screen where to the right you'll see "Search by User Name", a line to enter a name, and then a drop down list where you can choose between "Find Posts by User" or "Find Threads Started by User". for my next question, where does it say "Search this Forum"?

There's a drop down menu for the Search function between Forum FAQ and Log Out. From there, just use the Advanced function, and you can select which specific forum you want to search.

I didn't use the 'search' up there, but rather, if you look further down right beside "Threads in Forum : Other Published Worlds" you should see "Forum Tools" and "Search This Forum". Try clicking that one (it should be directly beneath the pages numbers.

Do you even have a "My Account" function, so that you can change your user settings?
