They also had a skill point buy system where you could raise your abilities in non-weapon proficiencies. Alternative spell-casting methods in Spells & Magic, including bonus spells for wizards with high intelligence. A critical strike table for realistic criticals in Combat & Tactics, and rules for weapon mastery. Whole body injuries (criticals) for spells and breath weapons (Spells and Magic). That's all I can think of right now. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Hiryu Date : 11-29-03 04:04 AM Actually, Sandskimmer, I think he is asking about 2ed first printing vs. second printing, not the Player's Option series. To answer the question, the difference is basically the books design and a couple rules fixes. All this fixes are typos, a couple spells left out and some tables corrections. Basically, the difference it's the same as 3E and 3.5E... the latter only looks prettier. I do not think revised 2ed has anything diferent, rules-wise. Please, somebody correct me if I'm wrong. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Dopefish Date : 12-06-03 07:15 PM If Hiryu's right, why does everyone talk about how bad it was? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Hiryu Date : 12-07-03 02:47 AM Okay, I think there is a litle bit of a missunderstanding, here. There is no such thing as Revised AD&D 2ed. There is 2ed first and second printings. As far as I can recall, the second printing of AD&D only had a few erratas and a new design, and it's the one most people know(with the black hardcovers). Then there are the Player's Option series that Sandskimmer mentioned in his reply. This are NOT AD&D Revised edition or AD&D 2.5, as some like to call it, this books are just a collection of optional rules than can be introduced in any ongoing AD&D 2ed game. Those series are formed by Player's Option: Skills & Powers, Player's Option: Combat & Tactics, Player's Option: Spells & Magic and Dungeon Master's Option: High Level Campaigns. Some people hated with a passion the Options series, so maybe that is what you are reffering to. Again, please somebody correct me if I'm wrong. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : ironfang Date : 12-11-03 04:40 PM I loved some aspects of the PO series, and disregarded the ones that I didnt like. Critical Hits really put the finishing touches on combat (didnt use critical hits for spells though). Players playing fighters had much more fun now that they can watch their fighters shatter knee caps and stab orcs in the stomach. Umm nope, I own two copies of the PHB and DMG 2e both are the unrevised copies I just checked them and my dmgs are 1st and 3rd printings and my phbs are 2nd and 3rd. Neither are thw black books. The blacks were a revision to some extent but not like 3.$ as suggested. most of teh changes were negligable allowing you to play 2e and "2er" with no revisong to pc's or adventures. The second edition logo was taken off the black books making it just AD&D as well. this link (http://www.flash.net/~brenfrow/dd1/phb3.htm) and thislink (http://www.flash.net/~brenfrow/dd1/dmg3.htm) will take you to both the DMG and PHB notice teh printing discrepincies as well they reset the printing #'s at the revision apparantly. I did not have my balck books long enough but I think there were higher page counts and info that was included as well as a bound MM. wich included monsters for use with all seetings including Planescape ( the demons and Devils were reincluded) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : migo Date : 12-19-03 04:03 AM They're essentially the same as far as I'm concerned. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Hiryu Date : 12-19-03 03:20 PM I see. Thanks for the info, Plunderer. I have only seen the 1st printing books, not read them, so I wasn't sure on that one. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Plunderer_of_the_planes Date : 12-19-03 04:14 PM Not a problem....Scary isn't that I am so full of useful info...Maybe that is why I still work in a boat factory......:D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
