Collection Limits Where do you guys draw the line w/ collecting?? When I played back in 80/81 the 5 books and basic and expert sets were all there were.......now I'm getting back into collecting and hopefully playing and I find myself buying things that exceeded my knowledge of back in the day, like Greyhawk, Dragonlance, Manual of Planes, Monster Man2, Unearthed Arcana, etc.......I have a ton of stuff, found some cheap deals, trying not to get carried away but it's too late. Ijust don't want to start collecting in a certain area and have it be incomplete or not work b/c I don't have something else .........oh, I also have about 25 Mayfair Roleaids mods!!! Am I crazy?? 2nd ed. is where I draw the line.....but do I go to Companion, Master sets, Oriental Adv.? etc???? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Sprue Rubbles Date : 12-06-03 01:50 AM I just got PHB, DMG, and MM. I have on order the Dark Sun campaign box (the first one), downloaded Thri-Kreen and Earth, Air, Fire and Earth sourcebooks from www.svgames.com. I plan on finding MM2 and Fiend Folio, but that's about where I draw the line. ... well, actually, I'll pick up a few modules for nostalgia, and download a few more settings like Greyhawk and Spelljammer since I never played those. As a general rule, I would like to collect all the stuff that has the works of Erol Otus in them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : rathbaster Date : 12-06-03 08:09 PM I'd say collection limits are all up to you as a collector. Personaly I'm moving in the other direction, selling off older stuff that has niether sentimental value nor is likely ever to be used. One of my friends has purchased book cases so that he can look at the various role playing/wargaming "stuff" he has. He likes knowing where the last 20 years of spare money has gone :D He's got a spare room in his apartment and its got three walls of gaming stuff. (And I thought I had a lot of rpg parephenalia.) -Rath -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : diaglo Date : 12-08-03 03:06 PM i have or have owned everything with the D&D label on it. i paid $500 for the orange Palace of the Silver Princess. there is no limit in my book.:D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 12-08-03 03:55 PM So then do I keep the Roleaids Demons II and Apocalypse box sets they are unopened, there are about 4-5 more Demons boxes, I don't know if I want to go there, too space taking and I may not ever get to them, but then again, I have them........I dunno, I can't decide if I want to list them on Ebay or not........ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Habronicus Date : 12-08-03 06:18 PM Personally, all I care about is the content of the old stuff. It's great for ideas! Yeah, some people say that the old modules were more "dungeon-crawls" and less roleplay oriented than today, but since I never play a module EXACTLY like it's printed, it really doesn't matter - I add the flavour myself! ;) That said, I have a huge amount of PDF files, and I plan to get more. I dream of the day that I'll have every RPG product in PDF... but alas, money doesn't grow on trees and, unfortunately, only the most popular stuff is available in that format. That said, before you put those RoleAids for sale, why don't you contact SVGAMES? I'm not sure, but I think they pay if you provide them with original modules that they can make a PDF of. I may be wrong, but it's worth a shot... and would make me very happy in the process! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Sardan Date : 12-09-03 04:56 PM I'm trying to get together all the 1ed stuff and then all the Grey Hawk stuff. Big job but doing it very casually! Check this out Acaeum (http://www.acaeum.com/) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 12-10-03 12:06 PM I guess I'm trying to collect as much 'yellow stripe' 1st ed. mods/accessories as possible, I have been really lucky so for, now to put it all together and use this stuff!!!!!!! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : TheHitPointe Date : 12-11-03 01:36 PM We have several collector customers who tell us that they are "TSR collectors" and draw the line at the point that Wizards took over. 3e and d20 are off the radar of these guys completely. This would leave you with roughly 500 items to go after -- quite enough to keep any collector busy for several years! If that's not enough, you could try to get all the TSR Dragon, Dungeon, and Polyhedron magazines, which would add another 400-or-so items to hunt for. Some folks go after the lesser-known early TSR games like Boot Hill, Gangbusters, Gamma World, and Star Frontiers. These are smaller product lines than D&D, and thus easier to collect. Gamma World is probably the priciest of the bunch, but all are more attainable price-wise than D&D. There are RoleAids and Judges Guild collectors out there too. Prices tend to be lower on these also (although there are a few rare titles that go for higher prices). Some people collect MERP (Middle-Earth Role Playing) by ICE or older Battletech titles. We don't deal in these, so I don't know much about their prices or availability. Whether you collect ESD's or want the actual books themselves, there are plenty of things to collect out there! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Yen-Lo-Wang Date : 12-11-03 04:45 PM There is no line, the 5 large bookcases and unknown number of boxes in my garage say otherwise. The only hard part is when your looking for something specific and have to sift through all of your books to find it (Been looking for my Marvel Super Heroes Ultimate Powers Book for 2 weeks now  ) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 12-11-03 10:23 PM Thanks for the replies, my plan was to stop at 2nd ed. stuff around '88. The Role Aids boxes I have are from '93 and part of a large Demons campaign or whatever, so I think I will list them.......:fight!: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
