Has anyone out there begun to work on converting their Mystara campaigns to 4e? The edition seems friendly to certain things (such as non-traditional player races like kobolds, orcs, etc) that could play to certain things that Mystara once possessed (Kobold kings *ahem.. shadow elf mutant.. cough*, Orc characters, etc)

speaking of Mystara and 4E, has anyone given any thought to where the dragonborn might be from?

where would you guys put them on the map of the New world?

First, convince me that the dagonborn and tieflings should exist in Mystara.

If every race can exist in every setting, they all end up looking the same I would not want rakasta or lupins in GH or the FR, for example, much as I love cats and dogs.

They shouldn't. But I can see why many 4E fans would like to allow them. For those who do decide to use the new 4E races, coming up with explanations for how they fit in Mystara should be easy.

OTOH, it is a bit odd that conversion discussions like this one always get hung up on novelty features that would be minor aspects of the setting if actually allowed.

4e Goblinoid PCs are actually the easiest to play in Mystara -- even more than the basic PC races (e.g., the Eladrin/Elf issue, Tieflings and Dragonborn).
They also make for good parties -- there's a builtin reason to have multiracial parties, and the various races fit well the roles, except maybe the controllers, until some more controller classes are released.

I want 4E Rakasta anyone want to try a home brew version?

Man I want Rakasta and Tortles I might even give a try at converting X9 The Savage Coast to 4th as a bit of a learning exercise.

Anyone interested?

It should not be too difficult. Rakasta certainly have a Dex bonus. The second bonus may depend on the breed (Ancestors and Greater Rakasta would have a Str bonus, for example), but for Savage Coast (Basic/Domestic/Alley Rakasta) I'd assume Cha, and for Wild Rakasta I'd use Con. This also matches the fact that Basic/Domestic/Alley Rakasta should be good Rogue and Bards, and that their wizardry doesn't match the elemental/invoker nature of the 4e wizard.

All Rakasta should get +2 to Perception and Acrobatics, medium size, speed 6, and night vision.

The claw and bite attacks can be modeled on those of Gnolls from the recent Dragon Magazine article (for Greater and Ancestor Rakasta), or simply as a weapon proficiency similar to the Katar. The energy burst can be modeled on the Human feat Action Surge.
The roar attack of Greater and Ancestor Rakasta should be modeled on the Dragonborn breath weapon, except that it would only use Con or Str, target Fortitude, and do Thunder damage.

For Domestic/Alley/Basic Rakasta, I don't have a clear picture of what powers could be used, though maybe an encounter immediate reaction that allows the expenditure of a healing surge when the character first drops to 0 HP could mimic the "9 lives" power of the Domestic Rakasta.

Those are some great suggestions GP!
