I just had an idea about where to put Tieflings in the (4E) Known World. It will not satisfy the demands of off-the-shelf adventures that require big-horned, floppy-tailed tieflings to work as greengrocers and pawnbrokers (and whatnot) in all major cities of the world. But then, nothing will that won't fit into Mystara like foot in glove. So:

The Flaems of Glantri.

-Mysterious, otherworldly origin tied to fallen empire? Check.

-Generally ******-off people -> powers based on rage? Check.

-Heavily associated with fire? Check.

-Make the best damn blast wizards in the world? Check. At least the CO board people think so, and I respect their base cunning.

Just replace the silly horns and tails with red hair and copper skin, and you're good to go.

So, comments?

That's not a half bad idea there.

If so I would have Tieflings among the Flaems, rather than replacing the entire race. Flaems are interesting as humans as well.

Over at the Piazza someone linked the Tieflings to the creatures summoned and used by both Alphatians and Glantrians during WotI war. That is the explanation I have liked best.

So, you could have tieflings as "purebloods" and humans as those with a little too much outsider blood? Adds a little crunch to their obsession with genealogy, which I like.

Interesting. OTOH my take would have them ready to go as PCs in AC 1000, which is also kind of neat.

I like the one presented by the OP better. Since there would be no physical difference with humans, you'd get to choose whether to use the tiefling or human stat set when making a Flaem character.
If there was an alternate (non-fire based) tiefling, one might even declare all Alphatians to be Tieflings. Maybe it could be as simple as changing the damage keywords from fire to lightning and/or thunder...
