Other than that, you are correct. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Zythrst Greyeyes Date : 02-18-04 12:29 AM Thread Title : Well The objects would detect as magical, but you couldn't identify it as a trap. This is the same logic that apply's to detecting the magic on a wand or stave, but you don't know there functions. However if pc's have any intellegence at all a magical door or floor section is going to be very suspicious. :) Now for detect traps, I'd say that depends. The example of the Fire Trap I'd say yes it would work. Now Alarm is another manner, Alarm isn't what I'd call a trap I guess its a judgement call, but I wouldn't allow it. Gadjira, as far as your 1/2 normal value rule, could you site a source. The only reason I ask is that I don't understand, how a rogue would be able to detect them in any way, unless there was a mechinism involved somehow. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Magespawn Date : 02-18-04 02:05 AM Players Handbook page 40. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Malaug Date : 02-18-04 09:54 AM Thread Title : Cheers Thnaks for the answers. Note: PH is the original one, not the black revised edition. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Mock26 Date : 02-19-04 01:20 AM Zythrst Greyeyes, shhh! Watch what you say, players might be listening! I LOVE inane magical items, especially doors and floor sections. I once had a large dining hall in the depths of a dungeon that was done up to resemble the interior of a ship. To that effect, there was a 50' long, 12" wide, 2" thick center plank that ran down the length of the room, with the rest of the wooden floor being laid out perpendicular to this center plank (the center plank represented the keel). Anyway, the plank was magical, but its only magical power was that it was immune to fire. None of the other boards were. So, the group defeats the evil guys in the room, and when the cast detect magic, some weapons, misc. magic items, and some equipment radiates as magical, as well as this huge piece of lumber! Of course, no one had Identify in their travelling spell books, so they couldn't figure out what it was for. Well, you can imagine what a greedy group of players would do. They tore it out of the floor, and then spent about two hours of game time arguing what to do with it! There was a series of corridors and rooms that were laid out in such a way that the group could get the plank out, but it was a long and winding path wrought with tons of dangers. Needless to say, the voice of wisdom was drowned out by the sounds of greed, and the group proceeded to haul this unwieldy piece of lumber around with them. To their credit they did put one end in a bag of holding and reduced the length by about 10', but still, visualizing a group winding through a dungeon with a 40' long piece of lumber was too much! I had the chuckles for the rest of the night, and even now, 10+ years later, it rates as one of my best "sucker punches" on a group, especially because they fell for the door that was magically enchanted so as to be immune to mold, and the combined value for the two items was about 500 gp. They were quite upset with me for quite some time, even if they did laugh as hard as I did when the truth was told. Take care and have a great day.... ciao, john. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:19 AM.
