I'm a big fan of miniature and when the Chainmail miniature game was out, I was thrilled.... until they(WotC) announced the end of it even telling us there wouldn't be any set 5 where we would have knowned the Fly and Teleport spell not to mention new minis(in pewter). Anyway my question is this: Did anyone has develope new figurine stats, spells(Fly, teleport) ,skills....you know where I'm getting at? Care to share!!! :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : beavis123 Date : 03-23-04 09:10 PM Thread Title : You are in luck!! Well, they did brought us a miniature game lately WIZKID stile(pre-painted randon plastic minis in a box) not sure it's called SCALE mail though. But hey! Although I could use my pewter chainmail minis in regular D&D rpg games. I would still like to play the said game since I have enough figs in three different armies(Dwarf, elfs, gnolls and some drow,no-faction figs. Oh yeah and all the chainmail books.) o if some of you are like me and have ideas on what could be added to this game.... feel free to post. There was supposedly a lawsuit and the line was dropped....That's all I really know I cam across this in a rare instance that I was on enworld but the comment was made in A thread called Ask Gygax. As to the validity of it I am not sure so if anyone else knows chime in. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Stonebeard Date : 03-27-04 08:17 PM Thread Title : Re: Chainmail mourning Pardon my dementia, but are you talking about the original chainmail or that new fangled thing WotC came out with? (No offense .. just kidding) You don't subscribe to Dragon, obviously. Yes, Chainmail was an attempt to cross minitures with the card phenom games. Create a mini battle game with five or six sides. As everything, it was popular for awhile and then dropped. For whatever reason, throw it in the out of print section with so much many others. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Jihun-Nish Date : 03-28-04 11:44 AM Thread Title : Re: Re: Chainmail mourning Originally posted by Stonebeard Pardon my dementia, but are you talking about the original chainmail or that new fangled thing WotC came out with? The original Chainmail. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : MerricB Date : 03-29-04 01:23 AM Originally posted by Plunderer_of_the_planes Rumor has it that Chainmail was canceled due to the fact WOTC did not secure the rights when they Acquired D&D. As to the validity of it I am not sure so if anyone else knows chime in. No-one knows except WotC and Jeff Perren. However, completely untrue comes to mind. The most likely explanation for the legal action is over sales of the Chainmail ESD - WotC have bought out Gygax and Arneson so that they can reprint their AD&D material all they like without paying royalties. Jeff Perren was forgotten about in those deals, so royalties are still owed to him. When Mr Perren realised that, legal action was initiated. There might also be something with regard to the name of the game. But that is it. Gary said that Jeff didn't expect to make much money out of it, so I think that the explanation I offered is correct. (It wouldn't have taken much for WotC to buy Mr Perren out as well). The d20 version of Chainmail was cancelled because it wasn't as successful as WotC wanted it to be. (If the legal action had anything to do with it, WotC could have bought Perren out easily enough and continued with Chainmail). However, the line wasn't that successful so it was dropped and a new plan was developed, which eventuated in the new line of D&D Miniatures. Wizards have posted lists of Chainmail figures that can be used in Organised Play (tournaments, leagues, etc.) of the new game, though with new stats and rules, of course! Unfortunately, they haven't managed to post the updated stat cards for them, though reports are that they're pretty close to being posted. Cheers! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Plunderer_of_the_planes Date : 03-29-04 07:24 PM Thanks Merric. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : MerricB Date : 03-29-04 07:31 PM Thread Title : Re: Re: Re: Chainmail mourning Originally posted by Jihun-Nish The original Chainmail. You're not, actually. The original Chainmail was published back in 1971. It was a set of medieaval miniature combat rules by Gygax and Perren. It had a Fantasy Supplement that was the progenitor of D&D. WotC revived the name for their d20-based miniatures game of 2001, which is the game you're talking about. The d20 Chainmail line was primarily a line of metal miniatures; the original Chainmail was just the rules. I've tried the new stuff but 3e AD&D and the new Chainmail wasn't my mug of mead, enough on that subject. I still use the 1st edition rules and the 1971 chainmail. I've long since lost my originals but I have printed out PDFs from svgames to work with so It keeps me gaming. Long live D&D whatever the form! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Mindshred Date : 04-05-04 01:11 PM sigh, i loved the (new) chainmail.....got all painting-miniature happy for the first time :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
