I am reading the current D&D Books, Dragonlance and FR. The oldest D&D novel I have is The Penhaligon Trilogy going back to 1992. I am not interested in the endless quest books. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Magespawn Date : 04-03-04 04:22 AM I hope this helps, if I can think of any other's I'll post them. :) Greyhawk Book 1 - Saga of Old City Greyhawk Book 2 - Artifact of Evil Greyhawk Book 3 - Master Wolf Greyhawk Book 4 - The Price of Power Greyhawk Book 5 - The Demon Hand Greyhawk Book 6 - The Name of the Game -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Wedge_Hammersteel Date : 04-03-04 05:09 AM Thanks. I'll check 'em out. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Vilaad the Bound Date : 04-04-04 01:52 AM Hallo. Wedge, you are asking about old novels that are D&D. Are you looking specifically only for stuff that is cross- media (i.e. licensed product) that has a TSR/WOTC Dungeons and Dragons imprint? Or are you interested in anything that relates to D&D? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Magespawn Date : 04-04-04 04:32 AM Something else I remember was a series of books Gygax wrote dealing with a thief named Gord the Rogue. Saga of Old City,Artifact of Evil, Sea of Death, Night Arrant, City of Hawks, Come Endless Darkness, and Dance of Demons. I know that some of these I mentioned in the previous post. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Capn Charlie Date : 04-04-04 07:46 AM Oh man, magespawn, I agree. THe greyhawk novels were great. THose had more impact on the way I DM than anything this side of Conan novels. But aside from that, I have nothing to add. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Wedge_Hammersteel Date : 04-04-04 10:11 AM Anything related to D&D. I enjoyed the ten 3rd ed novels that recently came out and was wondering if there was anything similar, pre-1992, made by TSR or not. I forgot about the Conan books. Thanks. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Capn Charlie Date : 04-04-04 04:24 PM So, just to be clear, are you looking for actual dnd novels, or just lookingfor really good fantasy genre novels from that era? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Wedge_Hammersteel Date : 04-04-04 07:30 PM D&D or AD&D novels, Thanks -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : GreyLord Date : 04-04-04 10:02 PM Hmm, I would say the Dragonlance Novels Then for Forgotten Realms there is the Empires Trilogy The Icewind Dale Trilogy The DarkElf Trilogy The Avatar Trilogy The Pools of Darkness/Light Series The Moonshae Trilogy The Azure Bonds series Almost all of these were pre-1992 Also for D&D, besides the Penhalion Trilogy (That's the one with the Dragon's tomb, correct?) there is also the Mystara Series (a D&D trilogy of books including the Dragonlord of Mystara...etc.). Is this the type of listing you were looking for? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Wedge_Hammersteel Date : 04-04-04 11:10 PM Yes. I never heard of the mystara series. I will have to look into that. Thanks. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Michael Proteau Date : 04-05-04 01:38 AM The very first D&D inspired novel that I know of is called Quag Keep by Andre Norton. It is about a group of gamers who are transported into an Ad&D game, each of them taking the role of their character but having an enchanyed bracelet with dice on it that spin and roll whenever they enter into action. One of the characters wa sa Lizard Man and I just loved that character as a kid. It is a pretty good D&D adventure which is based on the actual game and publisehd in the late 1970's or early 1980's I believe. long before TSR ever produced any novels based on the game. Plus it is written by one of the masters of the SF/Fantasy field, so it is an engrossing read. -M -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : Vilaad the Bound Date : 04-05-04 03:21 AM Thread Title : Quag Keep Well Michael, either your sword-arm is quicker than mine, or you're a mind reader... This is preciselly the book I was going to plug, if Wedge was considering non-licensed stuff. I myself just read it recently, and it is surelly a different take on the genre. :tiphat: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : spray paint affiliate Date : 04-05-04 06:22 AM yeah, i remember ownig a copy of darkwater on moonshae by douglas niles back in the day. http://www.o-love.net/realms/covers_gallery/gal_moo1.gif -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : Maerik the Mystic Date : 04-08-04 02:05 AM I know you are looking for early AD&D/ D&D Novels, pre-1992. But I thought you might like this series of books, they're just like D&D. The Guardians of the Flame by Joel Rosenberg. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 16] Author : diaglo Date : 04-08-04 07:21 AM also the Ravenloft books: Knight of the Black Rose (1991) Vampire of the Mists(1991) Dance of the Dead(1992) the Dragonlance books were from 1985 on...starting with Dragons of Autumn Twilight (sept 1985) so too are there many Forgotten Realms books pre-1992. Darkwalker on Moonshae (june 1987) etc... and the Gord the Rogue series from Gary Gygax... and Quag Keep by Andre Norton. books, novels, and stories also had there beginnings in the magazines/journals... Ed Greenwood had started work on the Forgotten Realms even before he ever played D&D... back in 1967 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 17] Author : Yorlum Date : 04-08-04 08:11 AM If it is your sort of thing, there were even two PC games pre 1992, which were far more involved than the novels of the same title. Long OOP, but if your maching is compatible, try Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds, both by SSI. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 18] Author : kellinjar Date : 04-09-04 09:09 AM There were at least 7 Mystara novels released I'm not sure how early. 1 was a 3 book series about a knight named Flynn another was a 3 book dragonlord series and there was a standalone book that had this weird spanish theme to it..I didn't make it through that one. The 2 series though were really good. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 19] Author : Palin_IV Date : 04-11-04 09:56 AM Well I believe I have everything published in a D&D world before about 1998, so I could check the copyright's in my library or go from memory. Nightwatch- it's a greyhawk book pretty good Written by Robin Bailey The Eyes have it by Rose Estes- it features the same character aht she wrote about in the early Greyhawk books. As others mentioned there was quite a few DL books out by 1992 including both Tales I and II trilogies, the first Heroes trilogy. Some of the Preludes. There was a series of Spelljammer novels, the Prism Pentad in Darksun. I second the recommendation for the Joel Rosenberg novels. My only beef was that I looked at a newer novel he had written and he was using nearly the same plot device. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 20] Author : kellinjar Date : 04-11-04 03:17 PM Rosenburg has a number of series. He has his Guardians of the flames series which was the RPG group getting sucked into the fantasy world type thing. It was originally 4-5 books then over the years he added another 2-3 (including a very recent one) THen he had his keeper's of the hidden ways series. This was a story about some people who came from a fantasy world to earth through these hidden ways.. its been awhile since I read it..but there were some gems involved..and the people who came through were important in some respect.. I think it was 4 books last time I saw it.. I think it was expected to be 2-3 books more as not all the gems had been discussed and found. Another excellent 'crossover' fantasy is Marc Anthony's The Last Rune series. This is a really really good series not finished yet (its on book 5 I think) And R.A. Salvatore had a crossover series called The Woods Outback I enjoyed that one too. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
