A few minutes with google showed me that it was a 1st ed, wish-like spell, but I am still wondering what its exact effects are. What are the limits on its power, does it age you, etc? Thanks in advance. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : SamualT Barronsword Date : 04-03-04 06:29 PM It is an Illusionist spell similar to limited wish. In 1E the Illusionist is in a character class seperate from Wizards, and has its own set of spells. Alter Reality is the Illusionist version of limited wish and in the 1E PHB the spell description of Alter Reality refers you back to the spell description of limited wish to see how it can be used. Alter Reality does not age you, but then again neither does limited wish, in 1E. I beleive aging characters for casting certain spells is a 2E thing. In a 2E campaign I would just run it as a creature with the ability to cast limited wish, and unless you think this marid thing is likely to drop dead in the middle of your campaign from old age due to casting limited wish, I wouldn't worry about the age thing. If you are afraid of that, well, just fudge it. If it's a problem, ignore the aging aspect of the spell, and rule marids have the special ability to cast limited wish without being aged. In any event the PC's probably don't know how long a marid can live or what aging will do to it, so if they don't ask I wouldn't worry about explaining. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Stonebeard Date : 04-03-04 08:51 PM level: 7 Components: Special Range: Unlimited Casting Time: Special Duration: Special Saving Throw: Special Area of Affect: Special Explaination/Description: The alter reality spell is simliar to the seventh level magic-user limited wish spell (q.v.), In order to effect the magic fully, the illusionist must depict the enactment of the alteration of reality through the casting of a phntasmal force, as well as verbalization in a limited form, before the spell goes into action. This is typed directly fromt he 1e players handbook and as you might guess I play mostly dwarven fighters so I have only the literal meaning above to go by myself, i.e. no actual experience in dealing with this spell as a DM or a player. hope this helps -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Sildatorak Date : 04-03-04 11:56 PM Thanks guys, that was exactly what I needed. And don't worry about that marid dying of old age, marids are water genies so that doesn't really apply to them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 04-04-04 12:31 AM I could swear there was a spell with the same name in the ToM. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Sildatorak Date : 04-04-04 02:33 PM Originally posted by Wyrmbane I could swear there was a spell with the same name in the ToM. Nope, checked that one. It was alternate reality. It was a third level spell that allowed a reroll of any one die in the previous round. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 04-05-04 10:19 PM That might have been what I was thinking of. After a while, everything starts to blend together. :/ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
