I would also like to know what character was your favourite to play.:) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Serena DarkMyst Date : 04-06-04 03:26 AM Well.....my favorite 2E character is a male human fighter....fifteenth level, and I used him in the return to the tomb of horrors. the adventure was great until the DM updated it to 3E. Then it got awesome................just kidding, the whole adventure was awesome regardless of the rules set. But I consider that adventure to have been 2E cause we spent most of it running in the 2E rules set -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Sildatorak Date : 04-06-04 03:31 AM I am running Al-Qadim's Cities of Bone and Ruined Kingdoms, which is turning out quite nicely so far; the PC's miscast identify on the Cyclone of the Four Quarters and sold it to an antiquities dealer for less than it was worth. My favorite PC class has always been the thief, preferably with a dual-class in mage (3 levels mage -> as many thief as possible is perfect) if the stats allow it or as a multi-class mage/thief if the race is right. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Serena DarkMyst Date : 04-06-04 03:36 AM I just want to point out that I wasnt intending to offend anyone with my earlier statements. I just wanted to make a slight joke. No offense meant. and also....When Black Roses Bloom......great friggin module. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Shemeska the Marauder Date : 04-06-04 03:37 AM A human wizard 12 I got to run through the 'Squaring the Circle' module in the Planescape 'Hellbound' set. And just to ingratiate myself with the natives, it was run from the book and converted to 3e by the DM on the fly. I never started playing till 3e. (but obsess over 2e Planescape...) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Warlock of the GREY Date : 04-06-04 03:49 AM Serena DarkMyst I just want to point out that I wasnt intending to offend anyone with my earlier statements. I just wanted to make a slight joke. No offense meant. None taken from me. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Sarta Date : 04-06-04 04:07 AM Favorite adventure: Lost Cavern's of Tsojcanth (sp?) which I ran about 5 times with different groups, followed closely by Treasure Vaults of Lendoran wherein I lost about 7 characters in quite a few different forays into this dungeon -- all ending in very fun TPK's. Favorite Character: Lenny Rumblebelly, halfling fighter swashbuckler played solely at conventions over a 4 year period. When last played, he was up to ownership of a small fleet of 6 galleons and enjoyed charioteering in his custom chariot pulled by large dogs. His best solo accomplishment was defeating a fire giant in a boxing match (after convincing the DM that his boots of striding and springing made uppercuts possible.) :D Sarta -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Feldspar Date : 04-06-04 05:40 AM Favorite campaign was probably Against the Slavers. Hard to remember since that was during the glory days of my youth. Basically, that was the best DM I ever had and that's one of the (completed) campgains that I can remember. Several years later, the core of that group got back together for brilliant starts to both Ravenloft and Egg of the Phoenix, but each campaign tragically died early from players having too many real life commitments :( My favorite 2e character was my last one (different group of players/dm), a gnome Thief-Illusionist named Feldspar Silverpick, Spar for short. Raised in the Silverpick clanhold, not too far from the better known Gnomish village of High Haspur, his curiosity eventually brought to him to his uncle Shale's workshop in the city of Raven's Bluff. There he became a devotee of Gond and so left the Vast to begin a pilgrimage to Lantan. It was on that journey that he found common cause with a group of heroes. My favorite thing about Spar was the flexibility in what he could do. As our fellows (players) fell by the wayside (quit or had to be booted), Spar ended up the only mage or thief in the party. While frail, especially compared to the absolute tank of a dwarf in our party, it was usually Spar who turned the tide of battle with a well timed spell or a daring backstab. Spar has shown up as an NPC (years older and much higher in level) in our 3E games, but I've never really fleshed him out completely with 3E difficulties in multiclassing spellcasters. With an Arcane Tricker build, its possible to get something like a 2e T-Ill that's actually effective. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Rian Lightblade Date : 04-06-04 01:49 PM 1eKeep on the Borderlands & White Plume Mountain were the first two modules I played through. I was a fighter named, "Conan Bloodaxe", yeah awful I know but cut me some slack, I wasn't even in my teens at the time. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Crunchy Frog Date : 04-06-04 03:20 PM My favorite has always been U1 -- Sinister Secret of Saltmarsh. The rest of the series is good to, but I used it a couple times as a jumping-off point for a different plotline (e.g. the smugglers are actually smuggling weapons to spies/advance scouts for a foreign army.) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : protonik Date : 04-06-04 06:32 PM I loved Temple of Elemental Evil personally. Other than that... sorry, Return to the Temple of Elemental Evil... a ruleset should not make or break a good module so I break your no 3E rule because ANY module can be converted back and fourth with ease. Jason -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 04-06-04 08:58 PM Let's see, favorite adventure would be Ravenloft. Favorite campaign, hard to say. Never got to play in one, but I sure DM'd a few. Favorite character: Eareec Nevae'Elani, Elven Knight in the Court of Amlaruil. Currently a Ftr 22 (Grand Master archer), or Magegrief (minotaur), grand master with the Zwiehander. BIG tank. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 13] Author : pappabear5 Date : 04-06-04 10:35 PM Al-Qadim is my favorite setting. I do not know for certain where it came from but the adventure featuring the Cyclone of the Four Winds went the opposite way for the group including my character, al Borak -- a cowardly sha'ir who thinks she can be friends with genies. She and her friends were sent on a quest to destroy the Cyclone of the Four Winds by the Sultan of Efreet, the Caliph of Dao, the Emir of Marid, and the king of the djinn. Each ruler cast a quest spell on the party to destroy the weapon and bestowed on them a minor magic item to help them along the way. That's the punishment she was given (by the DM) for thinking it was a good idea to call the jann to tell the genies that they had discovered the awe full weapon. Better she had missidentified it and sold it. Actually, the desert rider really wanted it and they would never have sold it. My favorite adventure was the second one in which I played al Borak, called Nine Flawed Sapphires. I took us a half hour to try to penetrate Sakina Falls. We had to wait for the Dwarf to come along and reveal the way in. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 14] Author : kliate Date : 04-06-04 10:49 PM The only 2e character I played (haven't had a chance to use the other...) Faradh, a human fighter driven mad by a doppleganger. It didn't take him too long to figure out that a shapeshifter was responsible for the assassination of his employer, but finding the thing was another matter... After being arrested, escaping and returning to town appearing as a prisoner (use rope being an awesome skill to roll up...especially if you have an ally who can pretend to be your captor) he mistook his long-time friend (an elf) for the doppleganger and slipped out of his bonds too quickly - with a concealed short-sword. Of course, he was wrong, knocked unconscious and sent to a coal mine for life as sentence. 40 years later, the doppleganger finally dies off and returns to his original form. Elf buddy realizes that this is what drove Faradh to insanity, and acquires a writ to free him. Good times. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 15] Author : Warlock of the GREY Date : 04-07-04 12:36 AM So far I'm finding all of your adventures/characters interesting. If any others want to share your experiences please do, this gives me new ideas for modules/ campaigns to run and the different types of npc/player characters to put in them, it also give me insight into what kind of adventures overall that the majority of seasoned players find challenging/fun to play in. Thanks! :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 16] Author : GreyLord Date : 04-07-04 04:10 AM Hmm, so many I couldn't say exactly. In 2e, hmmm One of my favorites (among many) was not actually a module, it was an adventure I ran. I pitted the party against Dark Elves who were invading the nation. They had a mix of alignments, and since the party promptly got themselves captured, I used the differing alignments to pit the party against each other. I was purely evil in it. There was an elf in the party that the Dark Elves particularly liked to torture, so those of the party that wanted the Dark Elf's favor had to cut off a body part of the Elf. They also got to torment those who didn't, and also murder innocents (hence, they rapidly became of evil alignment if they were not already). Basic mayhem ensued. Very interesting adventure. It ended rather quickly though. One of my favorite characters was a Bard. He died at fourth level. The party ran into a particularly foul wizard and a few of his henchman. The Wizard cast color spray and knocked all but the Bard and his dog out. The Bard proceeded to try to take on the Wizard himself whilst the rest of the party lay unconscious. The Bard died, but he bought the rest of the party enough time so that the spell expired and they could resume the battle against the wizard. The bard saved the party, unfortunately, the bard died in the process. Even more sad, they didn't have enough money to raise him, never did. Ah, but the grandness of the Bards death was what thrilled me. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 17] Author : Tenzhi Date : 04-07-04 04:57 AM Temple of Elemental Evil... (Return is pretty darned cool, too) The insane party-killing module: Labyrinth of Madness is a good runner-up. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 18] Author : priest of blipdoolpoolp Date : 04-07-04 01:28 PM Queen of Spiders- that group of modules in one: Against the Giants, Queen of the Demon Web, etc. I DMed this series of adventures over a seven month period, with each game session running for two or so hours, an average of 4-5 games a week. Now that was intense; everyone practically ate and slept D&D. That adventure was played over ten years ago, and I still get players contacting one another and myself about the game. I made great and lasting friends, had loads o' laughs, and got through some tough 'real life' times by spending time with friends in Oerth's wonderful underdark. Gods, how I miss those days... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 19] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 04-08-04 02:11 AM The insane party-killing module: Labyrinth of Madness is a good runner-up. Half drow cleric 15lv... Favorite 2nd ed campaign? Ravenloft..ooh ravenloft! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 23] Author : Yorlum Date : 04-08-04 08:20 AM I have to admit that I am suprised that so many of you guys all thought that Modules were your favorites? I've played a ton of modules, TSR and 3rd party, and few indeed are the modules that actually provide a story for the cast. Most are little more than collections of battles and rewards. Almost like running a campaign based on the Monster and Treasure assortments...[I remember someone telling me that they even DID that!]. I do have a fondness for G1-2-3 D1-2-3, but when I think about it, it wasn't the story, it was the time that I recall, and am associating with that feeling. Back when the game was fresh and not over-regulated and twinkied almost to death. When you could tell someone that you had a 12th level Magic User and they were impressed, rather than telling you about their 30th level Half-celestial half-fiend, half kolbold Wizard/Priest/Barbarian/Rogue...you know, the one with the 25 in each stat, etc... Whho! deep breath... OK, better now... Anyhow, I cannot in honesty say that I liked ANY of the modules to play. As resources, some were pretty good, but even the best module took a backseat to an average Homebrew adventure. I preferred things like City State of the Invincible Overlord or Lankhmar to use as settings for my own adventures. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 24] Author : Manshoon Prime Date : 04-08-04 11:00 AM My favorite 2e character that I played was a female drow sword dancer of Eilistraee (with no innate drow powers or MR). She was good with a sword and quick with a spell, so most of the party looked up to her. Of course, that didn't prevent her from having to slap away a few groping hands or deliver a well-placed kick to the crotch of an over-amorous party member. :D The For Duty or Deity adventure was a blast. What says fun more than the Abyss, countless demons, a bad-ass Demon Prince, and a captive goddess? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 25] Author : Maerik the Mystic Date : 04-08-04 11:42 PM I would have to say Dragon Mountain. It was a great adventure but in the end no one survived. Considering Lolth was a no kidding for real goddess we all agreed that the end was fitting. Before it was over though we had made a darn good showing of ourselves! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 29] Author : meanreddragon Date : 04-10-04 09:18 PM Thread Title : Favorites The adventure that I remember the most is: Tomb of Horrors and Return to the Tomb of Horrors. I Played both modules and the character that I played was a Specialty Priest of Azuth!!! My Favorite module that I have DM'd is one that I wrote up myself for a disruptive party. If your party argues too much, don't seem to get along, (in or out of game), or if they have gained too much power and is abusing it. They magically find themselfs in the "Maze of Life" so named because once there, all items that the DM want removed from the game, can be done so magically. Once in the maze, the party must work togather and get along or they will die. If a party member goes off on thier own, they die!! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 30] Author : DangerMan Date : 04-13-04 10:49 AM Thread Title : Fave Character Half elven Wild Mage named Lazlo. Played that guy through several levels and had an absolute blast. I swear, whoever came up with the Wild Magic rules must have been reading my mind (of course, I'm also the type who liked trying to figure out how the machines of the ancients worked in Gamma World too, so a Wild Mage character isn't too far removed from my basic rpg character type anyway). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 31] Author : The WarOverlord Date : 04-15-04 05:12 AM Thread Title : Re: What was or is your favorite 1e,2e Adventure and Player Character Please no 3e or 3.5 Originally posted by Warlock of the GREY I was interested in what your favourite module/campaign that you have played in. Believe it or not the Main Baddie, cause he was the first Lich I ever faced and he kinda reminded me of "the Joker" in Batman :D (Actually thought one of the boobie traps was funny....but I wasn't the thief that got fried :smirk: ) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 32] Author : Algolei Date : 04-15-04 06:56 AM Favourite character? Hmmm. Talemagen, a human fighter, might be my favourite character. He had many adventures, although I don't know what modules we played in because the DM didn't tell us and even if he had we wouldn't have recognized them after he'd edited them for inclusion into his campaign. He was my favourite because he didn't speak Common. In fact, I took a course in Norwegian just so I could snakker a little norsk. ;) It really added something to the campaign. Especially when I convinced the instructor to teach me a few swear words. Then again, there was Randinal Dandy, another human fighter but with a very low Intelligence. He was used by the party as trap bait. I remember one time they sent him into a "haunted house" with the instructions to yell if he saw anything. So he did. He yelled when he saw the stairs. He yelled when he saw the floor. And when the party ran in to find out what he was yelling about, he yelled at them, too. In fact, it seemed like such a good idea that he would remember it every once in a while and yell "AAAAH!" just for the heck of it. Poor old Randinal Dandy. He turned into a statistic on the long list of "Stupid Things the Party Did Because They Didn't Understand the Rules." See, we were playing with the rule that PCs weren't dead until they reached -10 hp (or fewer). Well, back in those dark dreary days, nobody seemed to know that rule. They buried quite a few characters who weren't quite dead yet.... But it all turned out well for Randinal Dandy in the end. The party didn't have time to dig a grave for him, so they just laid him out in a ditch and covered him with loose dirt and leaves and junk. When he woke up a few days later, being an idiot and all, he naturally assumed he was a vampire arising from the grave. He went on to have a short but in interesting career as a blood-sucking fiend in the nearby village, until he actually caught someone and tried to bite them. They figured out he wasn't really a vampire, and he ended up being hired on as a sort of deputy, keeping the town safe from...well, whatever he ended up yelling at. "AAAAH!" -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 33] Author : CAS Date : 04-17-04 02:07 AM Keep on the Borderlands, or Death on the Borderlands as we liked to call it will always be one of my favorites. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 34] Author : Petrankov Date : 04-18-04 09:35 AM My favorite character was a Half-Elf Psionicist/Wizard/Priest of Mystra 7/7/7.
