Hi! This is the situation that happened yesterday. We where fighting an evil arch-duke of darkness (level boss :) ). We where losing and trying to retreat. My wild mage, almost out of spells, decides to cast his last magic missiles at the arch-duke. Poof, a wild surge! Randomly rolled, it comes out Target turns to stone. My questions are 1. Does the target get magic resistance, and save vs. spell against my wild surge? 2. Let's say he failed (which he dinn't). How, as a dm, how would you handle it? As his presence is quite important latter on, what you do to the storyline ? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 04-10-04 11:59 AM He gets any saves or resistances as normal. If it's someone that HAS to be around later for the storyline, I make sure they make it through. Bring in reinforcements or something if need be. The person/thing that has to be around later will make all their saves. Of course, I'm not going to be telling everyone that I need him later, but I'm going to try my best to cover it up, and as plausible as I can. Sometimes it even works. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Sildatorak Date : 04-10-04 04:27 PM If the save failed and I were the dm, the PC's would have about 1 or 2 rounds to try to hurt his statue. I'd say he'd be about AC0, immune to slashing, immune to piercing except for picks, all bludgeoning weapons and picks deal half damage. Basically the PC's won't be able to kill him before reinforcements show up to chase them off. Afterwards he is restored with stone to flesh, dispel magic, whatever, and he has a nasty scar thanks to the PC's chipping him. It would give the PC's the sense that they are really affecting the world around them, would keep him around, and would enhance the bad blood between them. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : imayb1 Date : 04-12-04 01:01 AM The target always gets magic resistance. If he had failed, he'd be stone. If he's important, he could have contingency spells or minions to save him. If those options don't work, you'll need to do something about your storyline... does the duke have an heir or trainee? Maybe his near-miss will make him consider this? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
