I recently started playing d & d again. The last time I played it was a little bit of 3rd, but mostly 2nd ed. In 2nd Ed there were no monks, however, I never played 1st ed either. This new group I am playing with let me be a monk, but we go by the 1st ed rules. I am sorry to all you who like that monk, I am sorry to say it is pathetic and inferior to that of a 3rd ed monk. However, I don't want to play 3rd ed rules, I just want the monk. I have been trying for the past 2 months trying to create a monk from the descriptions and flavor and abilites with that of 3rd ed/d20 ect. But I cannot find any type of conversion to make sure when I transfer over or "revamp" he is not going to be insanely over powered. The only conversion I have found is for Spell Resistance found in the Diamond Body ability. Normally it is Monk lvl + 10. But To find it in 2nd ed it is You SR - 11 x 5. Add 5 the % to it. Example a 13th lvl monk is 23 SR - 11 = 12 x 5 = 60% Magicial Resist. The big ones are mainly attack bonus, saving throws, and damage and exp levels. I was thining of making th hit die 1d8 for hit points, then for everything else take each of the saving throws and exp lvl from a fighter and a priest, and divide it by two. So if I needed 3000 exp to get lvl 3 on a figher and 4000 on a priest for the same lvl for the monk it would be 3500. Any tips, aids, downloads, info, or an actual conversion chart to take things from 3rd ed and use them in 2nd ed? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Sildatorak Date : 04-10-04 04:16 PM Actually there is a second ed monk class, it is in the "players option: spells and magic" book. It is a variant priest class that gets unarmed combat specialization and access to a somewhat unusual spell list. You might want to take a look at that before you try to go for a full conversion from 3e. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Skyshroud7 Date : 04-10-04 04:40 PM Really? Waaaaaaay better. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Hiryu Date : 04-13-04 12:10 AM Whine, Whine. Don't come on here telling me to grow up with language like that. Say what you want I have played the 1st ed monk, it slowly turns into an unarmed fighter but with worse hit dice and thac0s. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Toron Relg Date : 04-13-04 11:40 PM The Scatlet Brotherhood accessory for Greyhawk has the 2E version of the monk that is actually based on the 3E version (they were already playtesting 3E when they wrote the accessory). I use that as a base, but you could also add the martial arts rules from the Ninja's handbook too.
