I've had many a player who have asked about the sword but as of yet I have few answers. I recall that the magic books produces by TSR had the sword listed, however, I never got around to reading the stats. Questions 1. does it have a name/history 2. is it an artifact 3. Where would it be located in the current scheme of things. I wouldn't mind centering a portion of my campaign around the item... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Lost Woodrake Date : 04-13-04 11:56 AM Well, the sword is reprinted on the cover of "The Tainted Sword" if I'm not mistaken. So I guess it is Flinn's famous sword... what's its name... Wyrm-something... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : havard Date : 04-13-04 01:16 PM Thread Title : Flinn's Blade Lost wrote: Well, the sword is reprinted on the cover of "The Tainted Sword" if I'm not mistaken. So I guess it is Flinn's famous sword... what's its name... Wyrm-something... Wyrmblight. I'd guess its a Longsword +4 with special powers against dragons, manifesting itself in the greenish glow you can see on the picture. According to the novel, the sword had four runes which begin to glow in turn as the wielder proved his worth as a knight according to the four principles of knighthood (from the novel). Hence the +4 bonus. Jo Menhir had it reforged to the blade named Peace which had a fifth rune (peace) engraved on it. The novels are not very good though, and I wouldnt recommend trying to force them into canon. Plus, the story is a really sad one. Still, stealing a few elements from them works for me. Curious to know if the sword had an origin before picked up by the novel. Mind you the sword in the novel probably wasn't meant to be portraying the picture but as the picture was plasted on the novel it probably stuck. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Lost Woodrake Date : 04-14-04 02:51 AM Of course that's the way it goes (and I agree it's annoying) - but I was thinking that if it already happened - we could make useful use of it. Sorry, but I didn't see any info about the sword before the novel. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : havard Date : 04-14-04 11:22 AM Originally posted by Marc I've seen many novels re use pictures printed previously which is kind of annoying as you know where they originate. I think the picture was first used with the companion set. The novel is the only attempt I know of to detail it. Whether the decision to use that cover was made after or before the novel was written I dont know, but it fits amazingly, and since it was used for the companion set first, I do indeed associate it with Mystara. In an attemtp to provide a background for it on Mystara, I think stealing from the Tainted Sword novel is only appropriate, even though the novel wasn't very good. But I agree that reuse of artwork is annoying.
