Hi. From time to time I get on a kick and go about trying to expand my collection. I bought only a few Planescape items when they came out; lately I've been looking at some of the stuff to purchase and was blown away at the prices! The Planes of Chaos and the Blood Wars boxed sets in particular... What's the deal here, why is this stuff so much more expensive than (most) all the other 2nd ED stuff??? I mean, (around here) you can pick up just about any 3nd ED boxed set for 6-8 dollars, and in pretty good condition, too... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Tenzhi Date : 04-14-04 04:09 AM High demand, low supply. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : harmonic Date : 04-14-04 04:34 AM Well, yes... I'm curious why the demand though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Tenzhi Date : 04-14-04 05:06 AM Because it's Planescape, possibly the best D&D setting ever created for which some of the greatest material was released. Unfortunately, only half the people who should have been interested were interested at the time, and now the other half are realizing "Hey, that was great stuff and I should have it especially since the only thing WotC seems to want to put out is Best-Left-Forgotten Realms crap!" -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Incenjucar Date : 04-14-04 06:02 AM Pretty much what Tenzhi said. I myself got in to D&D largely BECAUSE of Planescape. Sadly, I missed out on the last 'sequence' of yummy books, due to moving to an area where I had no access to a bookstore (and rather little cash..). Thankfully, they eventually started selling PDFs of the stuff, so I at least have the information, albeit not in as enjoyable or useful a form. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Warhead Date : 04-14-04 08:59 AM Thread Title : Re: The Deal With Planescape Stuff? It also came at a time when WHite WOlf was at their peak and a lot of people snubbed their noses at D&D, which is especially sad considering that Planescape is a setting those fruits would have enjoyed... seriously. Planescape was probably the highest quality material being released for D&D or any other system during that time period and it really does appeal to gaming snobs. I just wish that somebody would license the setting and release it for 3e. Sadly, having gotten into D&D only after 3rd ed was out, I had to buy them all in that high demand market. Any of the Planescape material put out then in the waning days of 2e blows away virtually anything I've seen produced since that point. There's always Planewalker (http://www.planewalker.com) for the 3e conversion of the setting plus a continuation of the metaplot(s) post Faction War. *winks* I'm especially fond of the Sigil material there ;) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : SnowbearK Date : 04-15-04 05:47 AM Shemeska>> Now I wonder why that would be... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Tenzhi Date : 04-15-04 05:58 AM Sadly, I wanted the material at the time but I put off getting it until it was too late. So I only own the initial boxed set. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Thailfi Date : 04-15-04 10:07 AM We have faithfully played our 1e/2e combo campaign for 24 years and bought most products when they came out. For Planescape (our favorite setting of all time) we have: Setting boxed set Planes of Law boxed set Planes of Conflict boxed set Planes of Chaos boxed set Planewalkers Handbook (x3) A Guide to the Astral Plane A Guide to the Etereal Plane Fires of Dis Faction War Hellbound - The Bloodwar In the Abyss In the Cage - A Guide to Sigil Monstrous Compendium I, II, and III Dead Gods The Vortex of Madness Tales From the Infinite Staircase On Hallowed Ground My only regrets are that we skipped over the Great Modron March and that we did not get the Faces of Evil: The Fiends guide when it was out. Has anyone played any of the other modules and if so, how are they? By the way, do you see the kind of sales that WOTC is missing out on with their current marketing philosophy? We'll see if Eberron is different, but they can keep 3e until they give me a campaign with a good story, characters, adventure arc, and sensible accessories. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:21 AM.
