I am under the impression that half-orc is only a "core race" in 1st and 3rd edition. If I get The Complete Book of Humanoids, will that provide me with stats for half-orc PCs? Also, what other races does The Complete Book of Humanoids? I don't want a posting of copyrighted info, just a summary of what races it has, and also, if you feel like it, if you think this book is worth ordering. Thanks!:D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : SamualT Barronsword Date : 04-20-04 10:28 PM Thread Title : Re: ?s about The Complete Book of Humanoids Originally posted by Curious about Dark Sun I am under the impression that half-orc is only a "core race" in 1st and 3rd edition. I don't want a posting of copyrighted info, just a summary of what races it has...[/B] Aarakocra, Alaghi, Beastman, Advanced Bullywug, Centaur, Fremlin, Giant-Kin Fitbolg and Giant-kin Voadkyn, Gnoll, Flind, Goblin, Hobgoblin, Kobold, Lizard-Man, Minotaur, Mongrelman, Ogre and Half-Ogre, Ogre Mage, Orc and Half-Orc, Pixie, Satyr, Saurial, Swanmay, Wemic. ...and also, if you feel like it, if you think this book is worth ordering[/B] Depends on whether you are the DM or a player, IMO. I've gotten some good use out of it as a DM, for generating non standard humanoids with PC classes for the players to encounter, and if a DM wished to allow such, it could be used as a good sourcebook to provide players interested in playing a nonstandard race, a standardized method of generating such. As a player I don't think it would see much use. If a DM allows nonstandard races in thier campaign they probably already have this book or some other method or materials for generating the nonstandard character races allowed. If this is the case there should be no real reason for the player to have to acquire the same information elsewhere. If a DM doesn't allow nonstandard races for player characters, then there is less reason to get the book. On the other hand, If you just want to get it to look at it because your interested in the subject of how to generate nonstandardized humanoid races as player classes in 2nd edition, and don't mind the expense, go for it. The book is pretty "complete" as far as telling you what you might want to know on that score. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Demon Lightfoot Date : 04-20-04 11:50 PM I love the book; it gave me tons of ideas for my games, although I had to tweak a few things to suit my campaign. Then again, I managed to squeeze plenty of use out of just about all of my Complete books. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : SnowbearK Date : 04-21-04 12:21 AM As a Player I found the book immensely useful. Without it, I had no way of convincing the DM to allow me to play anything that was non-standard. I had an idea for a Centaur shaman-type cleric, but wasn't allowed to explore the idea. When the book came out, I was able to get the DM to run a trial game with the Centaur Witch Doctor. "Flaying Arrow" did quite well his first time out. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Sildatorak Date : 04-21-04 03:28 AM One oddity about the book is that it lists post-racial modifier maximums and minimums (every other book lists them before modifiers). For example ogres can have str from 16-20 as listed in CBH, but if it were in the PHB they would be 14-18 (since that is what their base must be). Another thing I recommend with this book is that you discuss with your dm how you are going to handle +str when you have an 18 (or 17 if you get +2) to start with. It is overly powerful, in my opinion, to have str +1 jump you from 18 to 19. It should go to 18(01), IMHO, or have you roll percentiles for exceptional strength and then bump it to the next category. If this doesn't make sense to you yet, Curious, don't worry. Once you read the PHB and see the strength table you'll see. If you're still confused after that, just ask and I'll clarify. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
