I've only DM'd one campaign before, and I'd like to do another. I want to have an assassin following around two party members who didn't exactly follow through on a task given to them by a shady type of character. Any advice for how to manage that? Should I have them make wisdom rolls when clues are around? Should I have them suddenly have to save vs. poison after dinner? I'd love to hear how I could work with this. It would almost be a side plot line in an as of yet undetermined campaign. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Lung_Mua Date : 04-21-04 07:00 PM Thread Title : let me see i have been stuck doing this hole DM thingi for like six years :tantrum: :banghead: and god is it driving me crazy...any who well let me see first to adress your last stated problem/question all D&D games should have a plot if not then they get boring... for posion they save would come when the posion takes effect that cout be any where froma few mineuts to a day and a half... for a case where the PC's don't know they have been posioned you make the roal in secret then describe (ex: play consumes a posion that deals 2d6 strenth damage, the DC is 10 they roal a two and add 2..ie they fail you say as your body shuders with its own internal efforts you can feel your strenth draining and even walking sems to become a chore) a clue if its something you see then its a spot and or search check. if its someone saying something then it would be decipher information i think anyway this "quest" could work very well it would just take some time to figure out Lung_mua -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Stonebeard Date : 04-21-04 08:08 PM Thread Title : Re: Help a rookie DM out. Save vs. poison after a dinner or get sick. You can make them role play this out or assign hp loss, attribute lose or even taunt them with a -1 con (you know it temporary but they don't). A few goes at this sort of thing and the players should be looking for trouble and in turn clues. That's when you hit them with some encounters. Maybe they want to meet the chef, maybe they see someone slip out the back and see the chef coming up from the cellar. Maybe the assassin has enemies of his/her own and a rival offers assistance (ranging from verbal clues to lending of swords daggers etc.) What is the setting for this thing anyway. Law and order was not too well known in outlaying areas during Meideval times but it was not unknown in cities of the time. In a city setting a constable of sorts might start an investigation and the unlucky flat foot actually catches the assassin red handed, but not unarmed. "Yikes! a constable has been murdered..." this job is too dangerous for ordinary law enforcement... what we need is a group of brave adventurers to save the day here... or even just a pair. Lots of luck -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : furgig Date : 04-21-04 10:05 PM Thread Title : thanks Good advice, thank you. Our game has an experienced DM, and two of us are taking turns at adventures to get some experience so the DM can play from time to time. I don't know if you're familiar with these locations, but we're about to go into Alfheim. I was thinking my adventure would take place in Darokin. I still need to read the Gazetteer for info on it. A few quests back, we were supposed to recover the Horn of Halav, at the request of two different parties. Realizing giving the Horn to either party would bring the wrath of the other, we arranged to have the Duke "confiscate" the Horn from us at a random checkpoint within the kingdom. One request came to two of our party members who belong to the Order of the Griffin. This request came from a member of the order who seemed a bit shady. My plan is for him to send an assasin after the two party members as they go along their next adventure. Hope that gives a few more details for those still interested in giving some advice. It's been great so far! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
