(I hope). So a couple of players are getting attacked by 8 orcs in a hallway, do all the orcs get an attack?? Can they all fit/get clearance for attack in this small space...how does this work, do they, within the same turn, shuffle for attack position?? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Algolei Date : 04-23-04 03:01 AM It depends. What edition? In every non-3E campaign I've played in, the use of gridmaps did not entail any particularly specific movement/engagement rules. The 10' grid on the module maps was just to facilitate the DM's describing of the area and the players' mapping. If the hallway is 10 feet wide, three human sized individuals can stand side by side to fight unless they use weapons that require a lot of space. Just like real life. :smirk: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : WizzyBlackmore Date : 04-23-04 03:06 AM Thanks for relying, I play 1st Ed. AD&D, I thought so about 3 across 10', I guess reality wins in certain situations....... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : diaglo Date : 04-23-04 07:43 AM Algolei is right for 1edADnD. don't forget tho.... the squares are usually 10X10 for indoor encounter...still check the key for the actual measurements. and outdoor encounters they usually = 30 X 30. the 10 represents yards not feet. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : RobertFisher Date : 04-23-04 01:17 PM Check that "space required" column on p. 38 of the PHB. That's what its there for. It's just info, though, and still leaves it up to the DM to adjudicate the particular situation. And check the scale. There are plenty of OAD&D modules that use a 5'/square scale on some maps. You occasionally run into other scales, as well. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 04-25-04 12:54 AM I always figured, all things being equal, that the most you could have was 6 human sized attackers on one human sized target, modified by the actual space availible and the weapons employed. That was uaually enough to beat up on people without killing them, and allow the characters a chance to fight things off and have something to show for it (the tavern wenches really dig those scars!). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
