I'm looking back through some older editions and I'm at a loss. I seem to remember that demihumans had maximum levels in certain classes in 2nd edition. Is that the case and, if so, where can I find that information in the Player's Handbook? Was this max level system only in 1e or am I going crazy? :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : diaglo Date : 05-03-04 03:15 PM you aren't crazy. 2edADnD also had level limits for demi-humans. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-03-04 03:23 PM Well, at least I know I'm not losing my mind now! :D Thanks for the information but does anybody know what page (or even what section) I can find that information in the PHB? Thanks again. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Thailfi Date : 05-03-04 04:02 PM The demi human level limitations were much more generous in 2e than they were in 3e. The only advantage to playing a thief in 1e was the fact that thief was the only class demi-humans could progress to unlimited levels in in 1e. Most other classes had level limits in the single digits. 2e had at least one class a demi-human could progress to at least 15th in and some races had 2 classes that could go that high. Most level restrictions were only from 12-15 level. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-03-04 04:09 PM Thanks for the help guys, and I found them in the DMG (no wonder I couldn't find them)! :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : kengar Date : 05-03-04 04:20 PM Demi-humans (elf, dwarf & halfling) also had level limits in Basic/Expert D&D (non AD&D). Of course, in Basic your race was your class! :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-03-04 04:50 PM That's a good point...and another question actually. :D In basic you still advanced your demihuman to some degree even after hitting your max level. Does 2nd edition do that as well or do you just stop gaining xp once you hit your max level as a demihuman? I didn't really know I was THIS rusty on the older editions! :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : Krothos Date : 05-03-04 05:02 PM I believe that you stop advancing levels in that max class. However, I always provided my players with the option of continuing, but at a 50% penalty. The PC would require x2 the XP to advance to the next level. IMHO, shows progress without stating "that's it, you're done! No more levels for you!!!" :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Wyrmbane Date : 05-03-04 10:41 PM There are two options for exceeding level limits in 2e, I use both (sorta). The first one is based off the characters prime requisite score (see DMG pg 15, Table 8). The second suggests slowing advancement down (DMG pg 14, blue optional rule), but this includes the period before reaching the max level. I've modified this, I only do the slower advancement when the max level (modified by prime requisite score) is hit. Then it takes 2x the XP per level. The players I've DM'd for haven't had a problem with this system. You can still keep playing that Elven Knight, it just takes you a little longer to advance. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : SnowbearK Date : 05-03-04 11:37 PM Elven Knights weren't the problem with the level limits...it was those damn Ogres with Titan strength who were clerics. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-04-04 03:00 AM Thanks for the information, that helps a lot. I'm working at converting my 3e game to 2nd edition because I just can't take it anymore and I'm sure I'll need to brush up on the rules big time even though 2nd edition was the only thing I played for about ten years. Thanks again for the helping hands. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
