My character recently aquired a "wand of force" in a module that the DM had converted from AD&D to 3rd edition. One of the items i found was a "wand of force", but the module did not have the right up on exactly what the wand can do. We know it can cast or suck up walls of force and turn into a bastard sword of force. Does anyone know what the stats are on this item or where to find it? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Thailfi Date : 05-11-04 08:07 AM I would have to go home and look it up, but I know you have one of the best magic items a player can acquire. It doesn't just turn into a bastard sword, it turns into a +5 bastard sword. As far as using up charges for wall of force I'll have to look it up. It is from the 1e Unearthed Arcana. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : Algolei Date : 05-11-04 08:22 AM Yarg. I hated most of the magic items in Unearthed Arcana! So overpowered.... First, a wand of force enables the wielder to cause a shaft of nearly invisible, blue-white energy to spring forth from its tip. This shaft of energy extends 4 feet and is equal to a +5 bastard sword with respect to hit probability and damage. This uses 1 charge per turn. As I stated almost 20 years ago--"Omigod, it's a freakin' light saber!!" :D Second, it can create a wall of force (like the spell) as if cast by a 10th-level magic-user. This uses 1 charge per wall created, and a single usage per round is possible. Third, it can create a nearly invisible plane of energy which acts like a Bigby's Forceful Hand spell. The wand user must actually be a magic-user in order to activate this function, and regardless of his or her level, one of the various Bigby's Hand/Fist spells must be recorded for study (not necessarily for casting) in the spell books of the wand wielder. This function uses half a charge per round. Welcome to the Force, young padawan. :behold: -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Kheldren Date : 05-11-04 08:29 AM Algolei, you have actually missed the best bit! - what makes it really overpowered (OK going from memory here). If you touch the wand of force to any of the effects it can create (wall of force, any Bigby's Hand Spell, or a Mordenkainen's Sword) it will absorb the spell destroying the effect and gaining 1 charge (max 100) per effect absorbed. So if you way is blocked by a wall of force, you have enemies chasing you and your wand is empty - hey presto, you have a wall behind you, the wall in front is gone, but your wand is empty again... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Demon Lightfoot Date : 05-11-04 10:17 AM Mine got destroyed. :( -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Algolei Date : 05-11-04 11:25 PM Originally posted by Kheldren Algolei, you have actually missed the best bit! - what makes it really overpowered.... Double yarg. I got tired of typing and missed that part. It can be recharged by a magic-user of 16th or higher level, and in addition it can draw sufficient energy to regain a single charge by being touched to any of the following: a manifestation of one of the Bigby's Hand/Fist spells, a manifestation of the Mordenkainen's Sword spell, or a manifestation of a Wall of Force. Touching any of these things with the wand causes the effect of a disintegrate spell, destroying the spelllmanifestation instantly, and enabling the wand to absorb power equivalent to a single charge. What a line, eh? "A magic-user of 16th or higher level." Yeah, right; except for the fact that Bigby's Interposing Hand and Wall of Force are fifth-level spells, so if you have either of them you can effectively recharge the thing when you're only 9th level. The material component for Bigby's Interposing Hand is a glove, and the one for Wall of Force is a pinch of diamond dust, so it's probably cheaper to the use the former (although there's no cost listed for the pinch of diamond dust). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
