Hi, being somewhat new to the D&D community, I was looking for a campaign setting with an arabian flavor to it. Like the Oriental Adventures did with Aisan tings. Thats when I was thrilled to hear of an old setting called Al Quadim. Unfortunately, I can find no information about said Al Quadim. I was just wondering if anyone here knows where I could find a copy, or if anyopne knows/remembers anything about it. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Falstaff the Fighter Date : 05-25-04 01:25 AM Well, there was a book called "Arabian Adventures" that was the same thing as "Oriental Adventures" except for an arab type world. Al-Quadim was the campaign world made to support it much like Kara-Tur was the world made to support Oriental Adventures (In older editions.). Officially, Al-Quadim is located in the Forgotten Realms (Like Kara-Tur.), esxcept far, far to the south. It is basically a D&D version of Arabian Nights. Elves and orcs are present here, but everyone generally gets along with each other (Elves, orcs, and humans all see each other as equals.). They view themselves as enlightened, and see the behavior of the people to north as barbaric. Much of their society is built on genies, who often have important roles in the government and such, but who sometimes show up as shopkeepers and other more common professions as well. Society is based on sea trade and caravans, and it is the perfect setting for things like Aladin or Sinbad. You can probably get the PDF from SVGames for like five dollars. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-25-04 02:36 AM Falstaff has covered the flavor pretty well so the only two things that I can add are, that the campaign setting is easy to use on its own or drop into another world (so you don't have to pick up a bunch of Forgotten Realms material if you don't want). Also, I like to buy my pdf files from www.rpgnow.com as they have a better system for downloading files and are just as cheap. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Zyphus Date : 05-25-04 03:02 AM Al-Quadim is not very good. If you look around you should be able to find it cheap. Wizards has 2 free adventures http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/downloads Corsairs of the Great Sea (which is okay) and Caravans (which I thought was a little silly) The most interesting bits were about genies and the Evil Eye. The special wizards that can get any spell by their genie familiars are sort of interesting. I think more should have been done to flesh out the culture and give it a better feel, like the Oriental Adventure book did. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Falstaff the Fighter Date : 05-25-04 03:37 AM I disagree. I felt Al-Quadim was very good for a setting (It was just not something in my favorite flavor.). However, it struck a good balance of some areas being very well defined while others were left sparse (And open to DM interpretation.). And Al-Quadim, whil e being playable, for the most part, on its own, was not made to flesh out the "arabic" culture. That's what Arabian Adventures was for. But Vader is right on not needing FR. You do not need it to run a good Al-Quadim campaign. It will work just fine out of the box (Even without the Arabian Adventures book if you do not mind some tweaking.). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-25-04 04:13 AM Ahem...it was me who said you didn't need FR to run it. lol ;) But, otherwise I agree with Falstaff. I thought it was a good setting and it's a shame I never got to run more than a few sessions with it back in the day. Oh well, I'm working on another desert setting right now so it'll have to wait. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Falstaff the Fighter Date : 05-25-04 04:29 AM Ahem...it was me who said you didn't need FR to run it. lol My sincerest apologies to you sir. I am sorry about that. If it is any explanation, I am trying to work on my 1e campaign world, its website, and post on messageboards at the same time. ;) Sorry about that though. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : vader42xx Date : 05-25-04 04:45 AM No worries, I was just having some fun anyway. :D Sorry to pull you away from your 1e work though! :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Faraer Date : 05-25-04 05:58 PM Zyphus's is the only negative opinion of Al-Qadim -- given that you *want* a Hollywood-Arabia setting -- I've ever heard. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : chatdemon Date : 05-25-04 07:29 PM A couple decent Al-Qadim websites: To learn about the setting and see fan material: http://www.al-qadim.com/ To buy OOP Al-Qadim books: http://www.svgames.com/downloads-wotc-adndalqdm.html -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Golem2176 Date : 05-30-04 09:05 PM You might also want to try ArabianAdventures.org (http://www.arabianadventures.org)! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
