Ok so I was looking through the PHB and it talks about the Paladin's Holy Sword and it has the little note of ask your DM what other powers it has....so I go to my trusty DMG and look it up..only to find that the page listed doesn't have the information..and I can't seem to find it anywhere in my book...could someone give me the specifics on this?....btw it's second edition...if that helps or matters at all....thanks in advance.. Also on a side note...are there any D&D chatrooms? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-04-04 05:02 PM What you're looking for is on page 185 of the DMG, under Sword, +5 Holy Avenger. :) As for the chat rooms I wouldn't know. I just drop by a few boards like this one myself. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : ScottyG Date : 06-06-04 08:14 PM Originally (pre AD&D) there were three tpes of 'holy' swords: holy avengers, vorpal blades, and swords of sharpness. The big power they had in the hands of a paladin was the anti-magic field that made the paladin just about immune to magic. A paladin with a holy vorpal blade... shudder. AD&D changed things so that vorpal blades and swords of sharpness were no longer holy swords, but I do have one undiscovered holy vorpal sword tucked away somewhere in my campaign waiting to be found by some lucky paladin. There are many general and setting specific groups, many of which have "official" days, where you can talk to some of the most knowledgable gamers in the industry. http://www.psionics.net/chat/java/chat1.html -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Algolei Date : 06-07-04 12:26 AM I had a vorpal blade once. The DM's whacky critical fumble tables led to my cutting off my own head with it. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-07-04 01:40 AM Hehe...not good. :) And when were vorpal and sharpness blades ever holy blades by the way? I've played since the basic days and I don't recall anything about that. In fact, I don't recall basic even having vorpal or sharpness swords (I remember something about slicing though...lol). Anyway, where was this information? :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Kheldren Date : 06-07-04 03:25 AM Slicing was in the Companion rules for D&D. The original D&D referred to by ScottyG I believe must be the early Dungeons and Dragons before the AD&D/D&D split. That said, I had never heard fo vorpal & sharpness swords being holy. Hmm, I was DMing an OA AD&D campaing and the lone samurai rolled a limb-removal on a gargantuan humanoid he was fighting. I rules that it cut off a toe due to size contraints (I think the monster was about 100' tall) - does this sound like a good call on my part? - the player didn't object at the time. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : ScottyG Date : 06-07-04 08:01 AM Paladins and holy swords first appeared in 1975 in 'Greyhawk' the first supplement for the original 3 booklet D&D boxed set. Scott -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-07-04 09:12 AM Ok thanks, I'm afraid I don't go back that far. ;) It's the basic red box for me! :D -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 10] Author : Silverthrone Date : 06-07-04 09:23 AM And when were vorpal and sharpness blades ever holy blades by the way? Yep, this is OD&D from the late seventies. Greyhawk: Supplement I: Pages 46 and 47. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : Algolei Date : 06-08-04 03:30 AM Originally posted by Kheldren Hmm, I was DMing an OA AD&D campaing and the lone samurai rolled a limb-removal on a gargantuan humanoid he was fighting. Sounds like a good call to me. :) After all, you wouldn't expect to find a vorpal nail clippers would you? Even if you did, you probably wouldn't lose your head over it. Baw ha ha ha ha! :embarrass Sorry. I...I...okay, it's true, I crack me up. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Downloaded from Wizards Community (http://forums.gleemax.com) at 05-10-08 08:20 AM.
