Mystara looks interesting from the bits and pieces I've seen. I'm curious, but not curious enough to spend on a bunch of different books. I'm looking for one book with the cultures, geography, religion, etc all in one place. A Mystara "core book", if you will. Does one exist? If so, what is it called and where can I get it? -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : stanles Date : 06-06-04 12:16 AM Thread Title : Re: Where to get started in this world? If so, what is it called and where can I get it? the closest thing to that is the Poor Wizards almanacs or Joshuans Almanacs. These give you a brief rundown of a lot of Mystara - they aren't core books as such though, there never was any such thing. They'v all made it to ESDs and are available through SVGames http://www.svgames.com/tsr9372esd.html, http://www.svgames.com/tsr9441esd.html, http://www.svgames.com/tsr2506esd.html and http://www.svgames.com/tsr2517esd.html. I cannot vouch for the quality of the PDF files though. People on the net have carried the alamancs on through a copule of years of the gameworld and these also offer an excellent overview on cultures, the geography, religion etc of a lot of the world. They're available in PDF or RTF format at http://almanac.starflung.com/ or in HTML format at http://dnd.starflung.com/alm.html -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : rogueattorney Date : 06-07-04 10:35 AM I would say that the best introductions to Mystara are X1 - Isle of Dread and GAZ 1 - Grand Duchy of Karameikos. Well, the D&D Rules Cyclopedia has a nice but short overview of the Known World and Hollow World countries, plus quite a few nice maps including the one from X1. You'll definately want to collect the Gaz-series though, as they are IMO the peak of Mystara'n quality products. You will literally play for hours before needing any new material.
