I know they're not 3rd or 2nd, cause i've played those. i think they're pretty close to the first ever version. anywho, i'll describe them. first off, they're small. they're as tall as the current books are wide. a light tan color. paperbound, not hardcover. the PHB is called Men & Magic volume 1 of three booklets. it's by Gygax and Arneson. published by tactical studies rules. the second book is Monsters and Treasure , the thrid is The Underworld & Wilderness Adventures. I also received the Greyhawk supplement by Gygax and Kuntz. that was published by TSR. and i just realized what TSR stands for...anyways, first three copyright 1974 then greyhawk was 1976, but it's the 12th printing it says. copyright 1979. i tried giving as much information as i could. any help would be greatly appeciated. thanks Matt -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 2] Author : Ath'kethin Date : 06-07-04 10:43 AM You have books from the Basic Dungeons & Dragons game. AD&D didn't come out until '78. So you have "0th" edition; it's not even AD&D. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 3] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-07-04 10:45 AM Actually, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he has the original game published in the 70's (not the basic 5 boxed sets which came out later). Follow the link below and look for what you've got: http://www.acaeum.com/ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 4] Author : Silverthrone Date : 06-07-04 10:50 AM Oh man Thalis! That is without a doubt the old 70s version of D&D, the original version (OD&D). Man what a find! What you have there is the contents of the original boxed set and Supplement I: Greyhawk, the first ever D&D "sourcebook". Basic D&D and AD&D came out in 76, but yours are from the earlier edition (Which itself was published through 79.). You have some serious collectibles. Here are the specigic links from the Acaeum to the products you have (The links have pictures so you should be able to identify them easily.). Your three booklet set: http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/SetPages/Original.html Your Greyhawk book: http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/SetPages/Supplements.html Congrats! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 5] Author : Thalis Date : 06-07-04 11:02 AM sweet mother of tyr! i'm pretty sure they're the 1st printing. i think the Original D&D Set (woodgrain box, 1st prt) is what it is. but i don't have the woodgrain box, so. but that doesn't really matter, cause i got them as a gift, so i don't think i'l be sellin them anytime soon. thanks vader. but, obviously i could be wrong as to what the boxed set is and what i have. anyways, thanks again matt -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 6] Author : Thalis Date : 06-07-04 11:12 AM boo! they're 6th print. eh, oh well. thanks for those links. they helped out a lot. none of the pictures are showin up however, but i read the descriptions. thanks. matt -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 7] Author : Silverthrone Date : 06-07-04 11:32 AM Either way, that's a cool find. Having the real books for that old game is awesome. Its the only edition where I am still forced to rely on PDFs. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 8] Author : vader42xx Date : 06-07-04 11:34 AM Glad I could help...and congratulations on the great gift! :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 9] Author : Glorfinden Date : 06-07-04 12:59 PM Thread Title : Re: What edition do I have? And I mean the WHOLE set. From "Men and Magic" through "Swords and Spells". Mine are the fourth printing dated November 1975. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 11] Author : darkraven0001 Date : 06-28-04 06:50 PM Thank you Vader for the site I have been wondering for many a years of what version I have. Sitting here at work and reading through them I have at least 4th printing maybe earlier printing. I have been searching all over for info on mine, I picked them up at a Con auction 10yrs ago. They are in awsome condition but with out a box just manuals. Again thanks for the Website. :) -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- [Post 12] Author : Algolei Date : 06-29-04 03:22 AM Wow. I haven't touched any hardcopies of those books since my friend and DM died a few years ago (they're locked up in his mother's basement, probably not to see the light of day until she passes away :( :( :( ).
